It would help if Aspin played him in his most dangerous role and that’s behind Tom in the free role. He’s not a winger and won’t take a man on and get a cross in. Totally wasted out wide. Not sure what the manager is doing on this one but it’s a worry

I said at the game yesterday that I think it's no coincidence that the team has gone to **** at the same time as his drop in form.

Definitely needs to be played next to Pope up front. Pointless on the wing as he never delivers a cross and never tracks back to help the full back. Still, better than Montano.

The pitch is the same for both teams. It didn't seem to bother Yeovil, Colchester or Morecambe much for 45 minutes.

Our squad is poor. Very little quality at all. And no significant improvement in the January window.

 

Our best form coincided with Whitfield and Harness getting close to Pope and pushing up the pitch. Whitfield has lost a bit of form but I'm puzzled why Harness hasn't been used.

Agree should not have been playing on the left wing yesterday. However not enough naturally left footed players in the squad that allow Whitfield and Nathan Smith to play in their preferred position on the correct side of the pitch (right) that means our better players have to try and fill in on the left hand side.

The problem is for Pope to supply flick ons etc to Whitfield he needs a wideman to supply the crosses for Popey and Whitfield to prosper and we don't have any wingers that are worth a cracker.

Pope said a few weeks ago that he loves players with the attributes of the likes of Ben and Worrall around him so they can feed off him.What has gone wrong with Vale's play since is just gob smacking.

He simply isn't working hard enough but I do agree he is like a fish out of water out wide, like I said before I have huge doubts in Aspin's ability to get the best out of players, it's only his Vale status that keeps the fans off his back although I know I'll get stick for it.

The whole left side needs working on but at the minute I'd going with Harness in front of Pugh, with Whitfield in the middle. It's not the best option... it's the only option, surely?

I'd definitely go with Hannant over Whitfield on the left next game, plenty of energy and he got more crosses in from that left than Whitfield has since the turn of the year.

 

I really want him to come good again, but it looks like a lot of the time recently he's trying too hard to do it all himself, beating men, coming inside and trying to shoot. To me he looks like hes playing more for himself than doing whats best for the team.

 

Remind me, when he hit some from in Sept / Oct was he playing in a 3 off Pope or just behind?
