Matchday thread: Fleetwood v Port Vale

Well, death or glory on Satdee!

Still have nightmares about our last game in 1991-92 when we were in the same position, needing a win (at Cambridge) and other results to go our way. We had a man sent off, conceded a penalty that never was, and lost 4-2 despite the lads playing out of their skins. Scarred me for life, so I'm hoping that history won't repeat itself!

Good luck to all those who're going - hope it's a great day in the annals of Port Vale's history.

The last game was home to Grimsby. We still had a small chance of staying up but lost 1-0. Wouldn't have made a difference had we won in the end. Was only 10 but remember being gutted going down on the last day.

I hope we can get some more tickets as it a not to miss game and thats down to those who represented the club last night .

So pleased for the 462 travelling supporters and what a goal worthy of winning any game and what a lift to everyone connected with the club .

A goal that changes everything its a shame it didnt come a few games earlier because it deserved to .

Im absolutely buzzing that we beat the bogey team Walsall and have given ourselves a shot at staying up .

Those players should feel ten foot tall today and it should send them into sundays midday showdown with confidence and BELIEF.

Ive got a feeling Billy Reeves may score or young Dan Turner or preferably both .

Local lads doing the Vale proud .

Eagles is a superb player and his two goals v Wimbledon and Walsall were magnificent .

Would i put Streete up front ,maybe i would but then id love c Reg score a goal away .

Sam Kelly is due a goal aswell and young Smithy might bullet header one in .

Im not looking at what they could do to us ,i darent then aint third because they r poor they r third because they deserve to be .

Im Vale though and i only want c what we can do .

I think last night was pivotal ,well done all .

All i can to those who r going u shout like mad for them and who knows we could be playing in league one again next season .

I believe both Bury and Gillingham will lose so everything to play

You should be allowed into the Vale dressing room at 11:45 Sunday morning to give the team talk. Despite the players being on a high after last night , and feeling more confident going into Sunday, surely a word from your good self would drive the point home, that you , like all Vale fans , bleed Vale and that the players should be in no doubt about the task ahead. It won't happen , but I'd love to see it. Maybe you should write it down , print it, and have one of the staff pin it to the dressing room wall. Thanks for all your

great posts on here , and hopefully by 2pm Sunday we will all be jumping up and down , regardless of age. Port Vale Forever

I remember that game, red hot day if i remember rightly, and weren't were winning at half time 1-0. Then Swanny gets sent off and the rest is history.

Remember both games well. They put green paint on the pitch fences to stop fans getting on to the pitch....ruined my new jeans!!!

And wasn't Grimsby the last time they allowed a pitch invasion on the last day because of the trouble on the pitch?

just looked on the Fleetwood website and they are clamping down on ticket sales you need to prove you live in the Fleetwood area if you aren't on their ticket sales database, crazy if they are struggling to sell all the tickets why not give vale some more tickets
Depends if the segregation can be changed, I assume they wanted to give preference to their own fans, did they expect us to have nothing on the game?

Streete upfront from the off anyone? Bikey back in central defence.

Kiko on one wing Eagles on the other, constant balls into the box.

Dan Turner may not be fit enough to start 3 games in a row/week, but I'd still stick someone else up top. Love him or loathe him Reg may be the man. He'd surely show more fight than JJ.

Will Pugh have the legs to play again? I would start him but if not fully fit then De Freitas in the middle.

Turners only 18 he should be able to play 3 games in a week.

Even though they are 3rd and going for automatic promotion if I could have hand picked a final away game where we would need a win then Fleetwood would have been one of the first chosen.

Reasons being :- it's a small ground with no hostile fans or atmosphere. We've had some good results there. They play football and don't just launch it with 6 footers all through the team. And their home form over the last month is pretty poor.

Yep, Swanny got sent off for arguing with the ref about the peno by the look of it.

Found the highlights here, if you can bear to watch 'em:

We had a good team out that day - Grew, Mills, Swanny, Vanders, Ray Walker, David Lowe (what we'd give to have a striker like him for sundee!)

It's probably my maths, but can we stay up with:

Vale W Gills D Bury L

Vale W Gills L Bury L

Vale W Gills D Bury W

Vale W Gills L Bury W

Vale W Gills D Bury D

If that's the case then I think Bury losing would be our best chance, as Southend are at home with playoffs to secure.
