Matchday thread: Fleetwood v Port Vale

It's probably my maths, but can we stay up with:

Vale W Gills D Bury L

Vale W Gills L Bury L

Vale W Gills D Bury W

Vale W Gills L Bury W

Vale W Gills D Bury D

If that's the case then I think Bury losing would be our best chance, as Southend are at home with playoffs to secure.

Look at it another way, Vale win would have 51 points, Gills have 49 so need to win, Bury have 50 so only need to draw.

Vale draw would have 49 points, Gills to lose 6-0 for Vale to stay up.

Still have nightmares about our last game in 1991-92 when we were in the same position, needing a win (at Cambridge) and other results to go our way. We had a man sent off, conceded a penalty that never was, and lost 4-2 despite the lads playing out of their skins. Scarred me for life, so I'm hoping that history won't repeat itself!

Remember the Cambridge announcer giving the half time scores out all wrong so even though we were winning, it appeared that was not good enough as the others were winning. Turned out that some of the others were losing and we would have been safe had the scores stayed the time. Cambridge Utd were thought a nasty club in those days, not sure if things are different these days.

I'd go with something like this myself -

Fasan

Smith

Bikey

Streete

Thomas

Eagles

Pugh

Foley

Taylor

Turner

Keep it tight as possible and hopefully score a goal from a set-piece, seeing as we have three defenders all more than capable in the air, or a a bit of Eagles magic to win us the game.

What has Thomas done to justify this enormous faith you're putting in him to deliver on Sunday?

When he's fit he's a threat & one of our better players. Having said that I wouldn't put him up front, keep him where he's best.

You might want to add someone else in there...

When he's on form, then I'm sure he would be one of our best players given his pedigree. However, I don't think I've really seen him at anything close to form this season. For me, he's been a disappointment and extremely inconsistent to put it nicely. I'd have him on the bench at best. It's a massive risk to play him if he's going to have one of his 'off days'. I'd sooner put my faith in Kelly starting than Thomas.
