Matchday thread: Port Vale v Southend Utd

First look at the new team.

Clearly see we have not got our perfect 11 quite yet. But given circumstance of however many players and new manager who are now living totally new life's in England then I am encouraged by the standard set so far. Of course improvement is needed and we will see the lads fitness levels as time goes on, if improvement continues when we can be certainly more optimistic.

Southend were very poor, however we played our part in ensuring that. First half was nervy especially first 10 minutes but we came into the game more and that's a pleasing sign.

Another clean sheet & we never looked in danger of losing.

Few more games I think we will find our best starting 11 and if they continue to gel, get some more good results for confidence and team spirit I think we could do alright.

I certainly am happy I didn't go today but for how terrible we were today we got a win and sometimes u have to win ugly but doesnt mean i want to pay watch it lol

Neither do I.

I want to pay to see us win 5-0 every game and have the league wrapped up by January.

I actually pay to SUPPORT the Vale. I pay for a season ticket to SUPPORT the Vale financially. I pay for tickets and fuel to away games to SUPPORT the Vale both visually and vocally.

You see, that's the difference between a 'fan' and a 'supporter. Instead of sitting at home during the game, telling anybody that will listen how bad the Vale are playing even though I haven't seen a ball being kicked, I'm out there SUPPORTING the ******* Vale!

BTW, this isn't a dig at anybody who wants to go, but for their own individual reasons can't go.

In my opinion after watch the friendlies and a league game, that was Vale in top gear. I don't think that was a 'below-par' performance. If Pages team had put that performance in last season i dont think people would have received it quite so well. I feel people have a certain amount of relief that is masking their concerns.

We have a massive squad yet no specialist LB or RB started yesterday. I see however we are now signing another goalkeeper. Bruno is flying by the seat of his pants and so are Vale. Survival will be a very big and welcome achievement this season.

Under Page we would have parked the bus after scoring and invited the opposing team to attack us. Probably lost 2-1. At least we carried on playing nice football and extended our lead

Go put your Stoke top on, completely wrong opinion.

Think Michael would get a better atmosphere if he had switched channels and listened to Stoke.

If the saddo needs atmosphere sitting at home eating a bag of crisps he seriously is in need of help instead of watching the real thing.

Do you want to put your money where your mouth is on that one? We won't go down

Why can't we all just support the Vale? Be happy and enjoy it when they win, and disappointed and sad when they loose?

Why does everything have to be part of some big scheme, where win, draw or loose, everything is politics and somebody must have an ulterior motive??

We have a new team, a new manager and a brand new season have started. Let bygones be bygones, stop living in the past and enjoy the present! Back the current setup, stop daydreaming about how everything was better when you were a kid. All the "the grass was always greener, the sky always more blue and the sun was always shining when I were a wee lad", what is it good for??? What does it give to the present season or help on anything, this day in 2016???

Just support the team, get behind them and UP THE VALE!!!

A lot of negativity after a decent performance. Their team is nowhere near as weak on paper as some are making out, they have plenty of players with decent experience at this level. Cox was a 2 million pound player only a few years ago, with a decent scoring record and Dave Mooney is a decent forward. Looking at their squad I would be pretty hopeful they could finish mid table again if I was a Southend fan.

2 clean sheets with probably the 2 youngest central defenders in the league a team that is working its socks off to get results, yes we will come up against miles better opposition than southend who I thought were very poor and just came to knock us about brake up play and try and bully us into submission, well it didn't work. I thought the defence looked solid for the majority of the game yes a few hairy moments but I can live with that, the midfield is just amazing foley grant and Tavares are superb all work their socks off covering every blade off grass, forrester had a good game scored a good goal and set up streete, cicilia just got battered out the game I thought they should have used the stretcher how he looked going off. hooper did ok but he needs to be up front and we need pace on the wings for me Thomas is ok but lacks pace now. 2nd half we played some good football without creating that many chances but I'm sure that will get better the more this team gets used to each other and the manager also gets used to what this league is about. I'm Happy as Bruno says lol

Literally couldn't have put it better myself.

For ***** sake why does everyone have to aim to be able to say 'I told you so' and be proud of it?

Why not just pull together and be positive for a change.

United we stand, divided we fall.

It was the 2nd game! How can you say survival will be a very big achievement after two matches!?!?! And we kept two clean sheets in those two matches! Stop talking out your backside!

Left back we have two injuries... Knopps been excellent there. Right back we have Yates injured and purkiss not selected it's not like we don't have them!

People would've been more than happy with it. Pages performance at home was never an issue it was the away showings that were!

I reckon if Foley had tucked away 6 super goals wearing his grandmas pink slippers you can guarantee someone would have complained the slippers were the wrong colour
