Interesting that despite signing 14? new players our first choice centre back pairing is a debutante from the youth system and a lad who was part of the team against Exeter. Which was what allegedly cost page his job.

Interesting that we played a centre half pairing that page wouldn't have put together in a month of sundays. And I didn't realise that Page was sacked?

I couldn't care less about the next game in the Tin Pot Trophy, so what would everybody's team be against Southend at VP next Saturday? I think at home we really need to be starting with 2 up front. Even if Kiko is fit there's no way he should go straight into the side after such a solid performance from Klops. For me -

Alnwick

Purkiss

Streete

Smith

Knops

Thomas

Grant

Tavares

Foley

Cicilia/Forrester

JJ Hooper

It's NOT the Tin Pot Trophy - it's the League Cup which, if we win against Carlisle, could see us draw a Prem team at Vale or away like at West Brom last season. We simply canot afford to turn down the opportunity of a decent pay day like that. Why do people on here think Tuesday's game is so unimportant? I don't get it.

Nathan Smith was playing well and had improved enormously judging from the excellent reviews from his time at Torquay (orchestrated by Rob Page) and winning Player of the Season there. So there was every chance he would have started on Saturday no matter who was manager or who was in the squad.

He could well be Vale's first big money transfer in some time.

I think some people believe the Carlisle game is in the JPT (or whatever it's now called)

I think it's Smith who is being watched by Norwich, just my guess.

As much I enjoyed the drive home yesterday with a point on the board and a clean sheet, I can not believe that supporters who went and watched us yesterday are so upbeat. Let's be honest we were very very lucky to get that point. The back four played heroically against a rusty Bradford attack. I would imagine that if we were to play them after half a dozen games we would lose. Grant was the main reason we got the point. He was battered by Hanson a few times and just got on with game putting in so many tackles and coming out with the ball. An awesome performance which kept us in the game.

Of the new foreign legion I was only impressed with Knops especially as he was playing in a role that is not his natural position, and surprisingly Mbamba, who after reading posts about him after our friendly games, was better than I was expecting.

It is going to be a long hard season on that performance as there were hardly any positives going forward.

I will be surprised (pleasantly) if we beat Carlisle on Tuesday.

Fair enough. Would still take 3 points on Saturday though every time over a win on Tuesday though if I had to choose.
