Tom Pope.

Of course there will be a percentage, regardless of how small, that will not buy a season ticket if we sell our best players. They will instead pick their games. In the same way there will be a percentage, again quite small, they will choose to buy a season ticket if we sign an exciting player or two. Not sure why you think it's a laughable statement. It won't apply to the vast majority but it will apply to some.

I'm laughing at people that would possible do it, its embarrassing to think there are people out there that would do it.

It happened after we sold Horton 40 years ago and has happened several times since. People will often find a reason not to buy an ST if they don't want to.

Sodje ? yes, wed just had a great preseason with him scoring for fun, then sold him and had a very bad season.

A few years earlier we sold Darren Beckford and Robbie Earle and promptly got relegated.

You are right only in the sense that all players either leave, get old and retire or get injured - so are 'replaced'. Doesn't mean you don't miss them or sign players that would want to stay - if they get him for under £150k I would be very disappointed.

Do you put Tom Pope in the same brackets as Beckford, Earle and Sodje?- I don't.

They are an embarrassment if there are those who hinge their decision of by a season ticket on one player. We support port vale not tom pope.

I'm sure Smurf will do all he can to keep Tom Pope inspite of what he may say publicaly but if another club make Popey an offer he can't refuse and Vale can't come close then who can blame him for accepting it.

No player is irreplaceable but in Tom Pope's case the issue is how long will it take, if he does go then lge2 beckons sooner rather than later.

Have some faith in smurf will you if pope goes so be it we wont go down quite a few teams worse than us in this league. All the years of watching the vale although tom has done well he still would not get in my top ten of strikers i have seen playing for the vale.

bit of a catch 22 then Tone because if we dont make changes we definately wont make the play offs.

Fair comment, KS, except that we are talking about the possibility of our best striker leaving. The sort of changes that would be beneficial are those that improve the squad. If we can afford a striker better than Popey, that's fine by me, although it still takes time for a new player to fit in.

So Constantine, Sodje, McPhee and Richards didnt score goals?

Cheers for yet another compliment, have I ever expressed any need to move into football management? No, Im a fan with a view is that not allowed or is only your point allowed to be expressed?

No Ive not written the season off, In my opinion there is a real chance to give some other lads a go and prepare for next year, if we wanted the play offs then we would have strengthened in January.

Am I happy with a strike force of Williamson and Campion? No, but we also have Nguessan and still Nimely for the time being, Nguessan scored goals up front for Swindon last year and deserves a full crack up front for us.

Campion is still yet to be given a chance, and for all of Williamsons bad sides he has scored as many as Pope, before you say well Popes been injured, the game time is nearly equal. (Yes pope is a far better player)

I repeat and have done throughout this thread why cant we find a replacement for pope? We signed him for free, not on the biggest wages and he did excellent, now im sure this happens with different sides throughout the country, look at the lad for Oldham this season, Forte, done nothing before now, and had a very good season this time around. There are players out there, they will probably be unproven as pope was when we signed him but there is no reason why they cant score 15 in league 1.

We also replaced Cullerton,Jones and Beckford, who scored more goals than the four players you mentioned.

It's what the Vale do.
