If only £200 was the issue in view of what Tom described earlier of a 50/60% pay cut then it would mean that he was only on £500. Come on REP get your calculator out.

Pope mentions he would be happy to lose 200 a week. It certainly dosent suggest that that is the 50% reduction. Pope will be on between 2.5 and 3.5 k I guarentee it.

Read the article, he's not bothered about it being only £200 a week he'd lose which therefore means it's a heck of a lot more that he's going to be losing cue my comment that he must be in a fair old whack! Do keep up ;)

Nobody,as far as we know, came in for him in January.Maybe Tom is now having a reality check,a £200 cut is his starting figure?

Think you are right, Howjy. Taking away the emotional link to the Vale, other clubs will see a 30 year old who has been injured for most of this season and had 1 great season in his career.

In essence Andy(cv) is right even if it does sound harsh. Pope has done a great job for Vale and by all intents and purposes was a massive reason we went up from League Two 2 seasons ago. A fantastic effort that shouldn't be underestimated as there aren't many strikers/players in the modern professional game who can say they have scored 30+ goals in a season(outside the likes of Messi and Ronaldo). And as I've said before that season it was one of the biggest transformations in a footballer I've seen in 20 odd years of watching the game so fair play to him. He also did pretty well last season with a step up quality to get 16 goals in an average side was good too.

However if we take the last 2 seasons in isolation his career makes pretty average reading for anyone who is not a Vale fan(that's not to say it's his fault as I think he was 22 before Crewe signed him from non-league?) I think he's showed glimpses at Crewe in fits and starts which prompted Rotherham to stump up 150K but otherwise? At 30 is he going to get any better?

Despite that I still think there will be quite a lot of sides in League One/Two waiting to sign him as goalscorers are worth their weight if someone can get 2 steady seasons out of him say 20-25 goals they'd probably see it as decent business!

I doubt there will be many League 1/2 sides who could afford the sort of money he is rumoured to be on (outside maybe the top 6 in our league, who could probably attract a better striker).
