Tom Pope.

Who can blame footballers these days over loyally when 1 and 2 year contracts are the norm, players are loaned out seemingly on a whim etc, who can live a stable life, or family life or plan or know what the future holds living like that. It's just the economics of life in the lower leagues.

In Tom Pope we have a committed local lad who loves the club and doesn't appear to want to go anywhere else. Is there a way such that he takes a pay cut for the next 2/3 years, has a testimonial at the end of his playing contract but then is employed by the club in a new role on a new salary as a coach/ambassador of the club/school liason etc if it benefits both parties.

No one is irreplaceable, but the club should do all it can within reason to keep Tom Pope.

What most people forget about tom is how fast he comes back from injuries or he plays through injuries, which again may affect his performances.

He is a model pro for the club and will always give 100%. If he goes it will be a sad day for Vale. Strikers who score goals are hard to replace. But if he goes, he can go with his head held in my eyes. Hopefully he will stay, but if he does go, i will wish him all the best. I was always told work and keep your head down and it will get noticed and reap the rewards, which is exactly Tom has done.

If you were paying the wage bill you might not be saying that im afraid. Apparently Pope is on 3-5k a week. I couldn't believe it. I just wish someone would show me some evidence of players earnings at Vale.

Well what is it? 3k or 5k? Big difference in every aspect.

Why not? Tom may not be the most gifted technically of our squad, but I would argue very strongly that he is one of the most wholehearted and committed players we have had for years!

Maybe so but that dosent mean he should be captain.

Personally I don't like to see forwards as captain, I prefer a defender or midfielder to be captain; ideally a defender.

If I was paying the wage bill that's exactly what I'd be saying or trying to find a creative way to keep our top scorer for the next 3 - 4 years without breaking the bank, a way that's beneficial to and suits club and player.

Nobody,as far as we know, came in for him in January.Maybe Tom is now having a reality check,a £200 cut is his starting figure?

Why would they? Hes just getting over a long injury lay off. Interested parties will wait to see if his injury has affected him in any negative way before getting him for nothing in the summer.

This may not be a popular view, but we are not actually entitled to know Tom Pope's wages. If I asked my colleagues at work what they earn, or if I asked my company to tell me how much a person earned then I'd be sent off with a flea in my ear, even if I were a shareholder.

Yes, we all want to know out of general interest, but maybe Tom himself and/or the club in the form of Smurf don't wish to make the amount public.

Having just watched the Bradford highlights it was a tremendous pass from Tom Pope for Birchall to run onto which led to the penalty and Vale's second goal.

All Vale player's wages are between the player and Smurf and not for the consumption of anyone else unless for some reason a player decides to reveal his salary.
