Looks like Micky is after a striker and right back as season long loans.

 

What as happened to Patterson said he is on loan for 1 year.

I would sooner have Yates in my team that Duffy. He had half a dozen good games at the end of last season and people think he is the first name on the team sheet. I would not be surprised if Duffy is not in the first team by Christmas.

 

Duffy's only played half a dozen good games as they are the only games he's played in his natural position.

 

Every time he's been at centre-half he's been superb. Best defender we have, by a country mile. He does a job at right back too (do people forget he played 25+ games there in the promotion season, and was solid?)

 

Duffy would be my choice of captain too. By far the most vocal player on the team.

I think we'll see an new Adam Yates once again because this season he will have a winger in front of him who tracks back. Easy to be made to look silly when it's 2 v 1

Thank you. I can see the point that in an ideal world, we'd have a better right-back but in an ideal world we'd have someone better in every position in the pitch. No-one is irreplaceable.

 

But it's all the comments like "dire", "dreadful" that are unwarranted. Yates is a good right-back, who helped get us promoted and held his own in League One last season. He's not the best right-back I have ever seen at Vale but he's a long way from being the worst.

 

Not only that but I would have thought that the fact that he's committed, he's local and he rarely lets anyone down (the same qualities as fans' favorite Mr Pope) would endear him more to the fans, not make him a scapegoat.

Nice to see so many on here trying to put perspective on poor old Adam Yates. Certainly not a world beater, but is wholeheartedly Vale through and through. He does seem to get better when criticised so we can hope he continues his improvement with us for some time yet, as a squad player. Micky has made it clear he's looking for "competition" in the right back area and rightly so if we are to look to improve our Team gradually.

 

We all have our own opinions on certain players and it's a jigsaw for the Manager to fit players into his squad. He sees them daily and will select a side to perform against whoever our opposition is, dependant on fitness, present attitude and current form. Easy for us to sit back and say "this player is crap, or out of position" so I admire Yates and others who may come across fans thoughts that they may be not good enough for a Vale shirt. They turn out for us and want to win, every game no matter how lacking they may be. UTV, the whole squad.

I think he is very underrated and never lets us down(which was shown in his great displays when he has played left back) but I don't think 95% of fans agree

Yates is better than Duffy who in turn is better than any other right back in the squad. Until we sign an actual improvement (Grimmer and Vidal were not improvements) on Yates, I am happy with him playing there.
