11th March 2014, Port Vale v Leyton Orient. Pre-Match, Match ltself.

Leyton Orient on a tuesday night under the floodlights.

U would think the prices would be reduced as u r allowed two games a season at reduced prices.

Yesterdays win and much improved performance hopefully get the punters in.

My team

Neal

Grimmer Duffy Dickinson

Birchall Griff loft Knott Jmw

Willo Pope

Win the ball high up the pitch ,brave playing three at the back but I dont want them having any time on the ball.

Vale 3 Leyton Orient 0

Seems a bit extreme to switch to only 3 defenders.

I'd try the team that started against Carlisle unless there are injuries.

Notts County 0 Leyton Orient 0

Defence please note - Notts County are BOTTOM of the division with a -19 GD while Orient have a GD of 35.

Orient can be stopped from scoring - decide amongst yourselves who the "fattest" player is and stick him on the back post at set pieces.

If Notts County's defence can rise to the occaision so must the Vale's .

When Vale go defensive with one forward and no wingers I fear the worse, as against Crewe.

Vale are best when attacking, like when they almost pulled off a result at Orient earlier this season. They scored two then and two on Tuesday might be good enough.

Orient aren't flying as high now as they were then, but Vale's form has also deteriorated somewhat, If Vale attack and get an early goal they stand a chance of at least a draw. If Mickey 's tactics are defensive wise Vale most likely will not score and Orient will.

I would like to think that Vale will win 1-0/2-0 but realistically Orient should win. (Hope that they don't,- prove me to be wrong Lofty & co.)

" We need too play with the intensity of that magic 20 mins yesterday for the 90" (Vale fan in Alsager)

..."that magic 20 minutes?"

Jeez, I know that we had a (relatively short) spell where we played better than them, but "magic?" If you thought that was magic, then you are easily pleased, Some of last season's performances ( Fleetwood away, Rotherham at home, and others) could justifiably described as 'magic' but none of yesterday's performance reached anywhere near those heights.

Yes Fosse,

Round 6 - 13 March 1954 1–0 in front of 31,000 - Albert Leake the scorer. Ah! I still bathe in memory of it al :)

Smallthorne's finest...

I was living in Bradeley at that time and about to celebrate my 5th birthday. I was too young for that game and did not pay my first visit to Vale Park until Boxing Day the following year.

We need a win Tuesday. The crowd won't be good, but if Pope and Willo can continue their good form we might be on for 3 points.

I was also considered too young for that match but I did go away to the second round 1 all draw against Soutport, and the 2 nil replay win 2 days later.

I agree but would replace Lines with Griff.

Why? We've been conceding too many goals lately, so why do we need Griff and his clumsy challenges that lead to dangerous free kicks for our opponents, just like Saturday. I admit that Lines has been a little off form this last month, but didn't deserve to be dropped after the Wolves game. I just don't see what Griff currently brings to the team.

Sadly, it looks line Lines is the latest target for Mickys moods and the boo-boy fans.

Target? You don't pull your weight and you're out. He's lucky to have stayed in so long.

It's about time he started turning up and justifying his wages again which we would presume would be up there with the higher earners.

He does that, he gets his place back and everyone's happy again.

I love the photo of Albert Leake scoring the winner. It must have been pure joy for Vale fans that day, and I can't imagine what it was like at the semi-final. The Vale don't get enough credit on FA Cup highlight shows, when the 1954 team was one of the best English lower division sides of all time. As for tomorrow night, 0-0 would be alright. I have a feeling Pope will score the winner though. I hope Leyton Orient go up automatic.

I know professional so called footballers are supposed to be able to play in any position that is asked of them, but with all the radical changes since the turn of the year and not having a consistent starting 11 has this anything to do with some of the players demise of late ?
