Carol Shanahan.

Recommended Posts

Carol has had a really bad 18 months with here decision making. Please don't add to this list by doing an on-field speech at the end of the Cambridge match !

By then, the outline plan for next season should be ready. A brief statement by the CEO would be preferable.

If I employ you you get the job because I think you meet the criteria but also I like you.  That’s how it usually works.  So then I put my trust in you to do the job and initially things go well, in our case we get promoted. It’s then quite hard to just turn around at the first sign of failure and sack that individual who’s delivered in the very recent past but is also someone you have now built up a good working relationship with.

The reasons for CG’s departure have never been made public.

I already stated in my opening post that she shouldn’t sell. Unless she wants to of course.

What I mean by that is she gets very protected as an owner because of how she saved the club. And let’s get this right, nobody can deny she did that. And every Vale fan should be forever grateful…… however….. whilst the fans can moan about Crosby, Flitcroft and now Moore, and certainly justified with Flitcroft and Crosby because of the recruitment and Crosbys football was so drab i stopped going because I was glued to my seat in boredom, it’s about time she took the majority of the blame and held up her hands.
She’s very quick to come and take the plaudits when things are going well. And very quick to hide when they aren’t.

She needs to make a huge apology to the fanbase.
She needs to let the fanbase know where we go from here. Do we back Darren? Will he have the window? Will a DOF have the window? How does it all affect our recruitment policy? Explain just how the club is unsustainable. Will mistakes be rectified? Basically what’s the plan? Because the previous “process” has been a monumental catastrophe.

We are in a huge mess because of her decisions and very much her lack of decisions in rectifying situations she employed.

I support "The Shanahans" for the reasons you outline. Also, to my knowledge they've so far not made any decisions that were knowingly not in the best interests of the club.

"Actions speak louder than words" and Carol has started to take action to hopefully fix and improve the football side of things with the sacking of Flitcroft, although not quick enough for some fans.

I'm all for communication but the club has to be careful as if the words don't match the outcomes then it just provides another stick to beat PVFC with.  As for this season the club haven't been relegated yet so there's time for a "Lessons Learned Review".

Vale are in a mess but IMHO it would be a vastly much bigger mess if The Shanahans' put the club up for sale at this moment in time.

You don't run a business as successful as Synectics if you are no good........

You can be a good Publican , but a bad Newsagent . Pro. football is a complete one -off , unlike any other business . You need capable staff who are experienced in football . All these staff at the vale were sacked and replaced by Synectics staff , who , to be polite , are not .

Exactly. How can you replace Colin garlick with Patrick?

My two pence.

I think anyone seriously calling for Carol's head really really needs to take a long hard look at where we were under Smurf and where we are now.

On the pitch it's absolutely garbage, Carol is not a football expert and employed an absolute ball bag to oversee football operations who spent loads of money on terrible players and terrible managers. The only fault I place at her door is that she was too loyal both to flickdick and Crosby (although in hindsight what could he do with the utter maggots in the squad we've got).

Off the pitch, we've got toilet issues, but we've also got a lot of positive stuff going on. The Academy is flying, due to competent people being put in place to run it in will ryder. Toilets aside we are making improvements in our facilities year on year.

She's not perfect, but the accounts alone show that we are absolutely indebted to her both for positive cash flow and for saving us from Smurfs greedy mits.

Were all angry right now, she put our squad building in the hands of a charlatan and he's delivered a relegation for us. But be careful what you wish for trying to chase her out.

Good post, very sensible. It was enormously frustrating watching Carol loyally defending flitcroft when 86% of us had seen through him and wanted him out. As faults go being overly loyal is far from the worst one to have and certainly better than being a backstabbing faithless so and so.

I think we must accept the fact that Carol was taken in but did have the best of intentions throughout, so is entitled to learn and move on. Next season is going to be tough enough without disunity resulting in making a bad situation even worse. League 2 is bad enough, let's not catapult ourselves down and out of the league completely with protests, boycotts etc.

I think the majority of fans will agree and thank Carol for buying the club, I don't think that's the issue.

What they talked about when they took over included transparency, communication, getting it right on the pitch 1st and more recently "Championship Ready".

On saving the club 10 out of 10.  On the the other items, well this is the issue, this is where the discontent starts.

Little if no transparency or communication (other than a very ill judged open letter to the fans), far from getting it right on the pitch and a million miles away from Championship ready.

All we want are owners that will give us Transparency, Communication and Getting it Right on the Pitch as a Priority.

I agree that all that gimpy management speak about "championship ready" "want need expect" etc is so cringe now in the cold light of day that I'd imagine she's pretty embarrassed.

Transparency though, I disagree. We as fans have reasonably frequent access to people like Matt Hancock and flickdick via fans forums and supporters club meetings. 1 month ago she sat down with the dicko, Mark porter and so on to hear there concerns and a week later she sacked the moron.

Outside of a Sunderland till I die style documentary, I'm not sure what more we can ask for.

For me , owners should stay in the background , you never hear anything from Kevin . All things should come from the CEO , because that is his job - to run the football club .

I wasn't even aware of Clarke other than seeing him play for us for about 5 minutes until it was rumoured that he was going to be our manager. I asked someone who knew him what he thought and he wasn't very complimentary. I also read into his history at various clubs on the internet and concluded that he is an average manager who has a massive opinion of himself, a massive chip on his shoulder about the fact that he didn't do as well as a footballer as he thought he should and an inability to recognise his own failings. Cheltenham Town fans seem divided on his merits too incidentally. . I wanted him to be a fantastic manager and propel us to greater success on the pitch but that didn't happen.

Quite clearly these are subjective views, personal opinions.  Taken at face value his CV suggests he’s a good manager at league 2 level.
