The two that I genuinely don't understand are Haldane and James.

 

If only we knew Adams' thoughts on these two...what he thinks they offer.

 

I'm no fan of Dodds but he does score goals, so I can see why Adams would keep him. I don't rate Tom Pope at all but he does put in a shift and offers something a little different, so again I can understand why the manager would want him in the squad. Rob Taylor can play in a few positions...

This retained list can only mean one of three things -

 

1) Some of those offered contracts have had their terms & conditions greatly reduced.

2) The new playing budget isn't as big as we hoped.

3) A couple of key players are leaving and we need to retain whats left.

Starting to think that I shouldn't have rushed into buying a season ticket, may have to take a book to the games.

I know that some may not accept the terms offered and leave, but this may weaken the team further because the better players may be the ones to go.

It's no good aiming for the playoffs, we want automatic promotion.

I don't think that this is too bad. i think that we will possibly loose a further 2-4 who walk away anyway. In reality, this season, minus 10 points aside, we were only 2 wins from the plays offs and I am positive that we would have made it if we hadn't gone **** up.

 

A good goal scorer alongside Rico, a left back, some width and some reserves to push for a 1st team place we will be up next year imo.

Nowt to do with budget. And why keep players you didn't want because the better players were leaving. That would be insane management. You have missed the last, and probably most likely option...

 

4) Micky thinks they are great and can't achieve better in the transfer market.

 

And people keep going on about some may leave anyway, missing the point that these will be the better players leaving the dross.

I will cry if we sign him, I really hope he makes us slightly more optimistic in the transfer window but I have to say in very pessimistic.

He probably was, but now out of contract and thats why we have offered him a contract.

 

The problem is that if Pope and Williamson agree, which i think they both will then our forward line will be exactly the same next season and thats hoping that Richards stays. We may then hopefully bring only one more forward in.

 

Waste of a wage if you ask me on Williamson. We need quality and goals next to Rico all season not these two.

This squad have just missed out on the play-offs for the last two seasons, so whatever we might think of them individually, as a team they are not far short. If we assume that at least 3 or 4 will reject terms, there is plenty of scope to bring in hopefully better players to give us that extra promotion push. IMHO it would be difficult to mount a promotion push next season if three quarters of the team are new.
