shambles of a season

Me and my lad had some great days. Burton, Barnsley, Derby, Plymouth, Portsmouth and Cambridge were memorable. Home form was a struggle although Shrewsbury last minute winner and Fleetwood first game were stand out. Solid wins on Boxing day and beating Charlton and Exeter and a few odd goal wins. Ipswich and Bolton at home on the hottest Saturday ever were good performances as was Derby apart from the end and I thought we were unlucky against Sheff Wed.

Unlucky we lost Jones and Garrity and we should have told Hall he stays until the end of the season.

Was my 52nd season Shambolic?  Far from it. !!

Good perspective. Being a fan is about travelling in hope. If all you want is the certainty of success, try a different club. One of them is only 30 miles away.

I would add Wycombe and Forest Green to the list of joyful days out (Bolton too, where the performance was as good as the atmosphere)

Plenty to enjoy, considering the season was so shambolic!

Realistically, League 1 clubs are always looking for small improvements in a rebuild, and I am hopeful our summer will be a good one. Regardless, season ticket bought, and I’ll be scanning the fixtures when they come out, and planning away days

I think success is more enjoyable when a supporter of a team like Vale. As it comes very little it is all that more special when it happens.

Totally agree, people just can't be bothered to read beyond the headlines. It's not possible to have championship ready squad whilst you're in league 1 anyway and carol knows that. I dare say plymouth will need to invest heavily over the summer in order to compete.

Plymouth are obviously going to lose a few players as well, to clubs already established in the Championship, looking to be promoted to the EPL.

Must be the lung busting walk up that hill and getting absolutely drenched ?

First visit for me to a new ground.

Great comeback after a dreadful first half. Great pub lunch in the town beforehand.

Also, I take perverse pleasure from getting absolutely drenched while watching 3 goals in the last 15 mins

I've seen many a shambolic season down Vale over the years. This wasn't quite one on early season form and the low number of points the bottom 4 achieved. So many parallels to our last relegation season from league 1. We got away with it this time. Next season needs to be a fresh start. We are starting from a low point. Those coming up shouldn't be feared so there's no reason why we can't do better overall next season.

It doesn't sit right with people because nobody knows the full story.
What club in their right mind would sack a manager with that 24 month record on his CV... especially a manager who had been handed a 5 year deal the previous season... a manager we were meant to be building the club around. A manager who Flitcroft stated we had to do everything we possibly could to make sure he wanted to stay at Port Vale, when he was interviewed as a part of the Sky coverage before the Peterborough game re Pompey rumours.
Anybody who believes DC was then sacked, 3 months later, based on the rhetoric from the club re our form since January is deluded.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that something serious had happened; something serious enough to warrant sacking a manager who was loved by the fans, loved by Carol, was revered by Flitcroft, was 1 year in to a 5 year contract & had delivered promotion & virtual safety this season.
My personal view is that the club made the difficult decision (in the best interests of Port Vale) & decided to stick to a rhetoric that protected DC as far as possible due to the close bond & respect they have with him. They were willing to sit & take the flack off the fans & the media by taking the moral high ground & keeping shtum re what had been going on behind closed doors, to protect DC. I believe that he was sacked as an absolute last resort based on a number of incidents/behaviours. There is no other logical reason for it. The 2 x wins in 18 was just a very convenient excuse which the club ran with to protect DC.
Do people not find it strange that non of the players, staff, even Crosby himself have come out & mentioned the great job DC had done, or the great job he was doing, or the respect they have for him etc etc...
He's barely been mentioned since he got sacked & I'm lead to believe NDAs have been signed at the club by virtually every member of staff working from Vale Park, even non football related staff.
It will never come out in the press & there will never be an official statement, but this idea that we tinned DC off without good reason has to stop.

Wow, that's brilliant. A sensible explanation of what has probably happened, and I might say the vitriol aimed at Carol has been nothing short of disgusting. Some fans have very short memories, listening to 'he said she said' rumours and rounding on the owner who, in my opinion, is acting on what's best for the club, from the stadium to what goes on on the pitch. I've heard various rumours but taken them with a pinch of salt. Doesn't help though when ex-players throw unfavourable comments out on Twitter, a right they seem to think they have

I don't think he does talk really well.

He is one of the worst examples up-speaking i've heard.

All of his sentences end with him going up an octave like he's watched one to many episodes of neighbours.

I can't stand listening to him

Don't watch and listen to his interviews then?

The results against the top 9 were as follows

Won 2 drew 4 lost 12

10 points from 54.

Those lot were a class apart. I hope as part of our hopeful improvement next season we can have some more wins against the big boys.

Money talks.

Survived in L1 with largely a L2 squad and grew the average home attendance…. far from a shambles, I would go as far as to say it was a successful season.

Next season will be measured differently.

Shambles….? Tosh, yes the second half of the season has been an anti climax after the first half, but we were never going to remain on the high that we felt after the playoff victories over Swindon and Mansfield, the club had 4 weeks to get ready for the new season and went into it with a predominantly league 2 squad…. I’m sure MK Dons, Morecambe, Accy and FGR would love to be in our position….. UTV

Well shambolic or not our away support has been excellent.

Even places where we don't usually take good numbers like Peterborough we ended up with a healthy support.

Fair play to everyone who's been able to follow us.

My highlight was  Derby.

Low point Exeter even though it was only game 2.
