  1. Mind the Gap......don't fall off that huge curved platform at Cheltenham Spa station.....I'm on the 11.32 ex Paddington.....think I get in there at half one.....ish Wish I could say SVA.......
  2. Yes.....I'm an old fuddy duddy......it's Whaddon Road to me......always will be Highbury....not Emirates.....Maine Rd.....not Etihad.....and Leeds Rd.....not Galpharm (or whatever it is these days!).....Boothferry Park....not KC Stadium.....Goldstone Ground (what a day/night that was!!).....not the Amex......The Dell.....not St. Mary's.....Burnden Park.....not The Reebok..... Try and stir a few more natives of North Staffs to point their sat navs to GL52 5NA tomorrow at noon.....you'll be surprised how quickly you can get there..... Vale fans.....I'm very disappointed......
  3. Yes.....of course.....second visit this season to Whaddon Road
  4. Pretty pathetic following.....less than 2 hours straight down the motorway.....can't even sell out a paltry 1500.....and we're sitting pretty in the play offs.....forget all this nonsense about priority away tickets.....
  5. This is THE fixture when the club should be looking to market the game in an appealing way that will have a SIGNIFICANT increase in attendance.......rather akin to the Burton game in 2013. Results in the next month will dictate if this game will be 'attractive' to the more casual (or lapsed) supporter Why not advertise the match as a 'BYCARS BLOCKBUSTER'.....say all tickets £10 if purchased by mid March.....fill that stand and make it raucous......the seats would largely be empty otherwise......take a bit of a gamble.....fill the place....generate some atmosphere.....and hopefully.....if things are still on track.....they'll be back for the final 2 home games..... We've got to get a new breed of followers up to Burslem somehow.....throw a sprat to catch a mackerel......
  6. Let's sell this one out now......2,500 Vale at the Bescot......
  7. Definitely watched Vale at Plymouth in front of 37,000.......early 70's ??
  8. I was at that game.......weren't there 37,000 at Home Park that day ?
  9. Firstly .....very many thanks to Carol and Kevin for re-establishing, during their short tenure, a fine spirit and atmosphere around Vale Park .....and to JA and his squad for the sound building blocks and results so far. Indeed, here we are in mid February and we are already safe from the trapdoor of non-league.......so onto the next question...... We have 13 games left......and having studied the League table this morning.....I'm pretty confident in saying that Swindon, Crewe and either Exeter or Plymouth should gain automatic promotion. It's positions 5th, 6th and 7th that Vale MUST aim for. What do we need to do? How many points do we require? I'm going to make it simplistic......of the 13 games left......will 7 wins do it?........in my opinion......NO......that would give us 72 points.....just marginally short !! But 8 wins.......yes.....yes.....yes.......we'd be there !! Until the dismissals last night, this team was coming to the boil nicely, and although we have Oleyke, Taylor, Smith and Gibbons to return......I don't want to put a damper on things, I forecast that we are going to finish the season just 1 pesky win short.......but please,please,please......to all at Vale Park......prove me wrong......and let's celebrate Carol and Kevin's first anniversary in charge......with a Wembley party in May...........
  10. The article about our disgraced, fallible pontiff is on page 68......but just look at the main headline on page 47......
  11. This chap RIDLEYS has only 3 posts.....a new member? Where have you got your info about Martin Symonds from?.....do you personally know him? Who says he's in for the job? Anyone wanting FULL info about him......ask me......I know EVERYTHING about him....address....phone no....business address....VERY VERY STRANGE INDEED.....I am seriously baffled.!!!!
  12. Hi Guys......occasional contributor here.....what a pity that we are playing at a micro Lego ground on Sunday.....there would have been a super charged atmosphere and we would have outnumbered the home support (tables turned on the last couple of weeks!) Haven't got a ticket.....but as Conrad says....where there's a will, there's a way......just think outside the box! Although it's a 150 mile journey for me, I'll be there.....and I'll definitely find a way into their tiny ground.....the football league should not allow the likes of Yeovil, Burton and Fleetwood to play in the Championship with such tiny capacities....I'd wager a bet that the Premier League would find a reason not to allow them admittance (maybe force them to rent a ground nearby for a season or two).....anyway...I digress....I went to Bournemouth approx 7 years ago on the last day of the season (think we lost 5-0) and found my way in despite no ticket.......done it at plenty of places over the years including Huddersfield on the last day.......I don't have an FY postcode.....just use your brains lads.....GET IN THERE.....suck that ball into the net! Don't be put off by the drivel on the Fleetwood website or police advice blah blah blah...anyone got into a ground using a drone yet?
  13. Can anyone throw some light on why we wore yellow shorts and stockings against Bury? Surely Vale, as the home club, should not be subjected to any kit change in any potential clash?
  14. The goalkeeping debate (Alnwick v Neal) threw up some wonderful names from the past and has prompted me, a rare scribe, to pen a few words. As was pointed out, the Enfield debacle (1984?) stiil gives me nightmares to match Canvey Island and Chasetown......but the banner to which one contributor refers (Who are Enfield?) I must lay claim to. I was living and teaching in Surrey at the time and followed Vale home and away (still do.....although from much nearer now!).....and got a few of my pupils to paint it for me! It was clearly in evidence in front of the tv cameras as was another of my banners in 1988 (White Hart Slain) at the Bycars End right behind where Sproey and Raymondo scored..... But as I am now in reminiscent mode..........who can remember this for a story......? The era must have been the same......mid 80's and the Vale were at home to Brentford, when Vale were awarded a direct free kick 25 yards from the Bycars End goal. I'm fairly certain that the Bees 'keeper was called Johnny Francis, and from Chunky Bailey's resultant shot at goal the ball flew high over the bar and into the crowd...... If you are still awake.......this is where it gets amusing and interesting....... I caught the ball cleanly......put it under my coat.....and disappeared from the ground and back to my car, taking the match ball with me!! I took the match ball back home to Surrey and used the ball at my school in footie sessions.........it was only the following week when I returned to the Potteries that I discovered that this had grown into a huge story in the Sentinel......a front page appeal for the return of the match ball!! The manager was duly pictured with a forlorn face and pleading for it's return along with a stern threat fom Staffs' finest! There was a Sentinel petition to find the perpetrator of this heinious crime........ By the following weekend i was beginning to feel hot under the collar and so on my weekly visit to the Potteries I deposited the ball on the steps of the old Sentinel office in Hanley.......conscience cleared.......but I couldn't believe what a storm I had created locally....... Anyone remember the broo ha ha? In the same goalkeeping thread, the name Stuart Sharratt was mentioned.......my hero of the late 60's......and in later life, I taught his son. I bumped into Stuart on that magnificent day at Wycombe 3 years ago, and although not in the best of health, he is living by the river in Richmond, and still follows all our results. Up The Vale!!
