Just had a look on the council portal. Barratt tried to build 282 properties a few years ago but it got denied. Persimmmon have currently got a planning bid in for 266. 266 new households on the doorstep isn't a bad thing when you're trying to get kids into supporting the club. No recent applications from Vale, yet.

Interesting, I never noticed that land before. 28 acres is a lot of land, I was thinking they were going to build a facility like the Crewe academy pitches in Shavington. But 28 acres is massive, will be interesting to see what they do with it.

Love this initiative from the club shows real ambition and vision. A joint venture shows we are seriously looking to expand our footprint in Burslem which is a positive for everyone , improving facilities and services for club and residents alike.

I just hope the supporters clubs stop banging on about Vale engaging with local MP's to help get things done.Like it or not you have to work with MP's to open doors and influence whatever your political sway.

Another thing ,if needed, to highlight our club is in the safest of hands with Carol and Kevin even when results on the pitch don't go our way.

Based on absolutely nothing, I get the feeling this is going to be a new semi-synthetic pitch in exchange for renting it out 6 days a week kind of deal.

Let's hope the council are sympathetic to Synectics and synthetics.

This is a logical way to develop the foundations of the club. We can't attract really good young players and, in the long term through them coming through, grow support by way of becoming competitive at the top end of L1 and eventually winning promotion. At worst it's consistent with a great L1 club having solid community foundations.

Our issue with where we are is that we are trying to compete with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Derby and Ipswich who have much larger fan bases and therefore money (set aside they got points deducted and relegated for financial rule breaches). We can't bridge that by either buying a better team and wishing for another 10k supporters. It's a long haul of transformation and growth which is bottom up.

The concerns about this are obvious. It's sustainability. Most football clubs at our level haemorrhage cash.  Instead of developing, the outcome can be a hit on the owners they can't sustain and eventually the usual cycle of crisis followed by new ownership whilst the supporters hope we don't become Bury. I do doomsday a bit too much here  but it gets over how hard this path is to take.

This has nothing to do with the MP, it's the council (as others have said).

Instead of slagging off our local MP, perhaps tonight the supporters club will acknowledge the work that our club and the City Council are doing to create a 'community sports campus' in Burslem.Council leader Abi Brown said "Our buildings, our property and facilities are located in very close proximity to the club and we are delighted to be working with Port Vale on this exciting community sports campus concept, which will have wholesale benefits for residents of Burslem and wider communities in the north of the city.
