The David Worrall "500" stat

Just being pedantic but where has this David Worrall 500th appearance come from?

It's certainly not 500 games for Vale as Simon Humphreys seemed to suggest on the radio (he has 217 appearances for us) and it's not 500 career games either.

As far as I can see his record (including sub appearances) is:

  • 561 career appearances
  • 494 in the League

It doesn't even work if it's just starts which is

  • 385 career starts in the League
  • 429 starts in all competitions

He's been a great player for many years but according to the stats I've read that landmark 500th League appearance landmark is still six games away!

491 league appearances, BUT, the little notes below the stats table show 3 + 3 + 3 (9) appearances in the playoffs. 491 + 9 = 500

it doesn't show 500 or 491 league appearances on there because sometimes they count playoffs as league games and sometimes they don't...

So seems like the club have decided playoffs count as league appearances.

However many games Dave Worrall has played he's been one heck of a signing for Port Vale. An absolute steal by Michael Brown.

Never shirks a challenge, never hides on the pitch, has tremendous energy and gives his all every game, has a few tricks, genuinely two footed, good skill and a super crosser of the ball. Add to that sounds like he plays a mentoring role in the dressing room.

Hope his fitness hold out and he has a few more playing years at Vale Park.

On Wiki I can only get to 491 appearances in total. To make 500 League appearances requires a minimum 10.9 years playing every game. It ain't happened.

I mean whatever the exact figure is he's had an excellent and successful career. Still got a few years in the tank. 

The differentiation here is the argument he has made 500 League appearances. I guess you are right that play off games count. So maybe; but it's this figure under challenge rather than overall total because it's a lot. When he first came to PV for example, he couldn't get a game and wasted time then.

Reading in the programme today it would seem that playoff matches takes his total to 500. You would think that playoff matches would be automatically included as league matches but there you go.


Yeah I don't really understand why you wouldn't. It's not a separate competition is it
