I'm not au fait with this idea of people getting testimonials for doing a job they were paid for over many years. I worked for my company for 53 years and didn't get one, spent a good chunk of my salary at the Vale and some of that will have gone to Mr Speed. I have never heard of ground staff at other clubs get one either.

IMHO the answer is no.

IMO he absolutely should! The testimonial oiught not be only the long-serving  players' perk but any employee who commits to that length of service?

They don't all go on the rock and roll once football career is over .

Was just on about what’s been earned out of vale. I’m aware that they don’t just sit at home watching countdown when they finish playing.

It's all very bizarre, and goes against the "people based" approach that has brought Carol so much success so far - ie treating people as people, with respect.

I can only speculate that something has "gone on" for him to leave in such circumstances. Maybe a fallout, or he's been leaking inside info or something like that? I have no clue btw, but something just doesn't add up.

You don't just let someone leave after 43 years without so much as a thank you!

Even putting that out there as a random guess that’s he’s leaking information is a bit dangerous.

My understanding from the gossip from a couple of people at the club is that’s this  goes all the way back to Clarkes public criticism of the pitch after a game (I forget which match it was) and I’m lead to believe that things have been frosty since that as Speedy took it personally. I also heard that he had had words with a member of the management over the state of all the pitches.

It’s quite telling that’s he’s gone only a few games in to the season too. But let’s face without spending hundreds of thousands on a new pitch any groundsman is just putting lipstick on a pig. It’s not going to improve by just reseeding it every year, it needs ripping out and that’s what speedy wanted.

Doesn't matter what the job is--I have to agree with mbycars that a testomonial shouldn't be given just because you've done a job for donkeys years.

Not a testimonial, but something should be done. Sure supporters club will have ideas. I would contribute, even if it is a nice engraved watch. As I have stated before if I bump into him he will not be buying his own beer. After 43 years he is part of the fabric of the club, not been paid a million pounds over the years, like one or two long serving players.
