Match Thread: Peterborough United v Port Vale

We really need to alter our away game approach! We are conceding goals at an alarming rate we have to tighten up especially against the more established league one sides. Also the woeful passing needs to improve. We still have quite a bit to do to retain a league one spot.

The team has huge mental strength. Playing on for the gaffer through tragedy, winning a drawn-out penalty shoot out under massive pressure after not having one in the league for so long, individual players going through personal highs and lows of form. Sometimes a team is better and we don’t have answers, but that’s not mental or giving up.

Sometimes it is mental.  If you’ve played any competitive sport you’ll know.

In ten games we have only not been competitive twice, Exeter and Posh. We have rolled over tamely in both games. If we are up for it, organized and at it we can be competitive at least. Drop the standards and we look very poor.  That is DC's job to make sure the latter is more often the case.

We need to play the 11 blokes in front of us and not the name/history of the club they play for. Fans are as bad in this respect.

Excellent point.

Some folk have almost written off about 14 games as a bonus because it is Ipswich, Wednesday,Pompey etc. Gives us about a 30 or 32 game season.

Whilst making an assumption we will beat little old Cheltenham, Morecambe and Forest Green.

If only it was so simple i'd be coining it in at the bookies.

Last season Morecambe beat Wednesday ,Wycombe, drew with Ipswich twice.

It is League one , everyone can be beaten irrespective of whether they get 25'000 gates or 2'500 .

Its all good to say this after the game and a loss, had we won people would be saying that's what happens when you stick with a winning team and dont tinker.

No, I wouldn't be that hypocritical. Check Facebook/Twitter, I commented before the game that sticking with the same 11 just because we narrowly beat Shrewsbury was lazy management and wouldn't fly v a much better team.

Most of the joys with the Vale are when we beat the big teams, ideally a couple of leagues above. Posh may well be the strongest of the relegated teams, time will tell, short on confidence but scoring first settled the game. Our fight back didn't happen and we move on. The big clubs are in this league for a reason, they may have more money, better players etc, but motivation and organisation can win the day for the lesser teams.

I was in corporate on Saturday so sat with the Posh fans. They thought that there first goal was against the run of play. What it did do though was to crush our players after a stupid mistake from Smith and also gave them a shot in the arm they needed and with that the confidence to play more on the front foot and in the end could have won by more than three.

It might be my memory then. I can remember before Ojo went off Jack Stevens having to turn a shot around the post and they also got into great positions around our penalty spot a couple of times that needed blocking.

I watched the game on ifolllow and it cut away on the stroke of half time.It appeared that their number 9 fist bumped somebody. If it was our goalie who had ,just made a good save from him that showed good sportmanship.

I saw that. It was indeed good sportsmanship unlike his reaction to the Vale fans each time he scored!

he did elbow Smith in the face to be fair but it did look fairly benign,

I thought that it was because he pushed Smith in the throat who fell on his backside and rolled over backwards.  Wasn't a sending off for me.  They showed it as a slow motion replay on iFollow and there was nowt in it.
