Well we didnot try hard enough if we saw potential! As said let a few gems slip through our fongers !

he didnt want to stay, he wanted to progress his career by moving to PNE, exactly as he has done again with this move.

there is no way we would ever have got £2 million for him if he had stayed at Vale - so all in all it has worked out for the best

Why didn’t Adams ask for a bigger sell on clause?Another who is quite happy to slag his paymaster off.It didn’t stop him coming at the start of the season.Book signing at the club.****.Add Morsey to his **** ups.
Nothing like re writing history. Adams messed up with Morsy, but Smurf can't be absolved of blame. His incompetence cannot be ignored, and yet it is likely him that will benefit most. And still, some refuse to see it. The man can do no wrong for some. Support smurf more than they do Vale.

With payments being spread over 3 seasons it will be the equivalent of 1000 extra season tickets being sold for the same period, but without the related pie sales!! Very welcome, hopefully will improve the standard of player signed in the summer.

You can't really blame the club for that though.

I agree we should try and keep our best players but it has to be within reason, we can't break our budget and we can't match teams with a higher budget or in a higher league.

The reality is that players playing for us will want to progress and play as high as possible if they can. Look at our squad now, can you really see players like Worral, Smith, Gibbons for example staying with us for their careers? Even the loan lads too like Whitfield.

We did see his potential and we offered him a new contract. He turned it down and went to Preston.
Come on Jean you should know that the offer made to Hugill would have been a derisory one otherwise I'm sure that he would have signed it being as he was only a rookie striker learning his trade at the time. I must say that the way it has all turned out has been for the best because had he stayed at the time he would have later been shipped out to the first offer that came our way. You know as well as I that any £100,000 offer would have seen Smurthwaite eyes glowing bright green and his head nodding like one of those nodding dog's.

Yes we have done well and if our present owner now decides to sell up then bingo it's a double whammy, happy days.

There was no way he wanted to stay at Vale when Preston came for him. Vale's hands were tied and thankfully Mickey Adams got us a decent sell on clause. Yes, he made a few mistakes but he,along with Andy, also got a decent kit deal with our present supplier.

From memory wasn't Hugill (and Williamson) generally used as a sub, at a time when Pope and Dodds/Hughes were here, or am I mistaken? It was probably a lack of regular football as much as anything as to why he went but no doubt PNE tripled his wages. Hibbert did the same.

But it's ended up a winning situation for us, I agree. If we'd sold him as a league one club we wouldn't have got anything like that, so the sell-on clause was excellent business and I think it was Adams we have to thank for that because PNE refused to deal with NS and Adams negotiated the deal on our behalf.

But whatever the rights and wrongs of the story it's a huge deal for us and excellent news.

Spend the money on re-establishing the development squad nthat gave us it. It At 335.000 cost for the one season we had it a wery good investment for us. Let's spend it on running a development squad for three saesons. It will benefit both 1.team and finance. Smurf must see the benefit of it now, thinking what if we had kept looking into the future then.

To be honest Bomber as a regular at Vale Park I didn't see his potential either. Admittedly I am only a fan but would find it hard to criticise the deal that saw him go to Preston for a small fee and a sell on clause. At the time I thought it was a good deal for the Vale and even if we had matched whatever Preston were offering if I was Hugill I would have moved to Preston who are/were a bigger club.

I think as fans we sometimes fail to see what our coaches / managers and indeed other clubs see in our players.
