Big money move for hugill?

I think it's pretty obvious that this won't have a positive effect on the playing side, it will simply go towards the existing wage bill and reduce Smurfs (supposed) future loans to the club. Worst case scenario really. Aspin doesn't get a bigger budget in the summer. Smurf stays. Debt to Smurf doesn't decrease (but doesn't increase for a period of time). I struggle to understand all of the excitement, given the way that our owner works. He'll think we should be grateful with that arrangement.

Its not like he's caused long term damage to the club through his own actions, which necessitated the money he invested as 'loans'.

Smurf is owed money by the club because of one person's mistakes; his own. If he had any decency he'd repair some of the damage he'd done to our club by allowing us to rebuild using this money.

Depends on how Smurf looks at the transfer money (which by the looks of it is being paid in instalments. Just hope its not a tenner a week).

Will Smurf say its all mine or will Smurf say I did not expect it, so I will allocate it to building the team in the summer. Gain promotion to Div 1 and then use more of the money to rebuild the team further to stay at this level or even gain promotion again. Then I will sell the club, as it will be easier to sell.

Just hope it is the later, but this is Vale and nothing is that easy. Just hope more info comes out about the instalment plan to pay the money owed being banded about.

How do you get through day to day life with such a pessimistic attitude!

By the time Smurthwaite has concocted his figures and waved his magic wand and then forgotten what the original figure was and then multiplied it by 3 we will end up owing him another 1.9m.

Anyone who thinks that a penny of the Hugill money will go towards correcting Smurthwaites mistakes and is put into the playing side must believe last nights moon was made of cheese.

Spend the money on re-establishing the development squad nthat gave us it. It At 335.000 cost for the one season we had it a wery good investment for us. Let's spend it on running a development squad for three saesons. It will benefit both 1.team and finance. Smurf must see the benefit of it now, thinking what if we had kept looking into the future then.

What use is a development squad at Port Vale. All the decent players would be snapped up by our Premier league neighbour and other top clubs.Even Crewe who have an established development squad are struggling to find decent players and when they do sell them on for peanuts like George Cooper .Its too easy for the big clubs to attract the decent players away.Look at the number of players being signed by clubs like Chelsea then loaned out to other clubs. The money should be ring fenced for strengthening the first team.Garlick and Fradley need to grow some balls and tell Smurf to do the decent thing but I don't think it will happen. Some creative accounting will see it magically disappear into Smurfs back pocket like the 350k last January.

Its nonsense to think we should have tried harder to keep him, and that what has happened is by far the best scenario that could have happened. We could have never commanded such a fee. It turned out perfectly. What happens next, who knows, but the amount we received isn’t something to have a moan about.
