Michael Brown is Port Vale manager on a permanent basis

Recommended Posts

Good news in 2 ways - firstly, it is sorted quickly and that means stability and planning are easier. He can now get on with his clear-out, get shot of those who need to go, and sign up some players who will restore the pride to the great club that is Port Vale.

Secondly - Brown is, in all likelihood, the best available choice. I say available because much as I'd like Nigel Pearson or someone similar, that is like trying to sign Messi and Ronaldo as players. Brown knows the workings of the labarynth and the ways of its strange creatures, and that includes some fans (yes me too if you like).

Healing takes time, but the process has begun. The stitches are out, the air is getting at the wounds, and we will rebound because we are Vale.

We'll never know whether he's the best available choice, will we? And for the simple reason that the club hasn't opened up the appointment to any competition.

It would have helped Brown's credibility if he'd it won it fair and square against a competitive field. But no, Norman goes for the easy option in the hope that he can recoup his losses on the cheap.

This is a huge gamble - a management team with no record of management success - and a risk we needn't take.

The "new" hierarchy have acted swiftly and decisively, so whilst not everyone might agree with the choice, lets give him our support and see what happens. If things are going bad, hopefully we learn fom this last year the importance of having somebody experienced in place who can make a difference in the January transfer window and is backed with the necessary funds. I do still think we'll have done still to be in the football league this time next year I'm afraid, but I really hope I'm proved wrong.

Totally agree the job should have been advertised to see who is available and Brown told he can apply.

But silly Norman extended his contract for no obvious reason.

As though he wouldn't accept the caretaker managers job if it was offered. Norman you are not a successful business man but a lucky loser. This is the worst thing that could happen as we are now in limbo until Norman gets his money back or puts the club in admin.

What do people expect to happen when the fans can't be bothered to turn up,it's well known that unless your lucky to have a rich owner in lower league football you rely heavily on gate money or you borrow millions and end up going down the pan if it doesn't work out, even with millions there's no guarantees in football.

Norman is a rich owner but wasted his money trying to make money by shopping in woolworths. Can you blame the fans for not turning up if they have to queue half an hour to buy a ticket then the football is crap.

We are all repeating ourselves ad infinitum but it changes nothing and we all have to get behind the manager.

I'm relatively happy with the news but know full well that if we don't turn a corner by Xmas the management team won't be here.

I don't think it's fair to judge Brown under the impossibly difficult circumstances he inherited. It was like saying here you go Michael, here's a Fiat 500, now try and win the next grand prix. He did enough for me to deserve an extension.

Like I say, it doesn't matter now, and I can see other viewpoints, but we need to get behind him and his new players and hope we can have a better season than the last one.

With all due respect , he had 6 months to steady the ship. His tactics were all wrong, we couldn't score a goal to save our lives , and he was all at sea in his post match interviews.

He was (partly) responsible for getting us relegated. That doesn't warrant an extension .

However , I'll support him , and we'll see where we are at Christmas. Everyone deserves a chance at putting things right. UTV

I thought that as of yesterday morning Norman was having no say in the running of the club, he won't be turning up at the club to work, won't be attending any games, so Norman hasn't gone for the easy option, in fact hasn't gone for any option, Garlick has appointed Micheal Brown, some people are so focussed on abusing every thing the club says or does they don't see the obvious.

It seems this was the only choice as a tight budget means every penny counts and presumably the cost to pay up compensation wasnt an option on top of either poaching a manager or paying more for an experienced manager- i would prefer money to go to an experienced player or 2 who can lead the team and more than handle league 2.

I wanted him after Bruno but do think he has made many mistakes and needs to hit the ground running and get us better organised with a cutting edge.

Needs to improve

Goal kicks - always oneside as players group in 25mtr square yet we still dont come out with the ball- Need to mix it up play out from the back play short and long to both sides to spread the play and create space

Throw ins- how many times have we just thrown to the opposition - need to have options back /down the line and inside if players marked movement needs to be introduced to create an option to enable us to retain the ball

Switch play- how many times do we play the way we face need to switch play from oneside to the other turning defences and getting behind them

Forwards- whether 1-2-3 up front doesnt matter as long has they have support and movement giving them options in all directions - and no high balls to ie turner when he needs it to feet especially when playing against a 6ft 6 centre half

Corners - need to look at both in & out swinging corners and short/ long with a good delivery to the expected recipient - not just the same player taking from both sides

When opposition have the ball how many times have we seen their players run freely from the halfway line to our peno box resulting in goals or further pressure- when defending corners leave one on half way line and 2 outside box ready to counter otherwise oppo just throw more players at us.

Subs take off players that are clearly knackered and not pre-determined ie scunthorpe hooper was having a great game and still full of running- Tyler was clearly out of gas yet hooper got brought off we lost the game.

Try not to drop deep conceding 3qtrs of the pitch ie bolton home its only a matter of time before we concede

just a few points from a laymen

Ps-Go with 15/6 first teamers on a balanced squad ,fill the rest with youth get callum guy on a year loan as he can fill in an full back and midfield-hopefully some budget left for a loan player if/when needed .

I told myself that I wouldnt post on OVF again but this thread is really boiling my pi55.

Ive never heard such a load of excuse making BS in all my life

Jones Alnwick and Grant gone in the window with 2-3 weeks left to go. Grant and Alnwick transfers were in the papers for two weeks before completed so 4-5 weeks to act.

Injuries potentially caused by overtraining as there was an over interest in getting people 'fit', Walker came with a shocking injury record too (browns choice).

Having to scrape around for players....he wouldnt have done if he brought in players of use during the window not a goalkeeper only to then get another one 3 games later and the two lads from QPR who played about 4 times between them.

Having to blood young lads... no he didnt have to he decided to rather than play lads like Amoros, Tavares and De Freitas who have some decent experience.

Having a Strike force of Cicilia and Hooper... This is because he signed a crock and let Paterson go (not great but better than nothing)

Only relegated by 1 point? He took over a side in mid-table, lost to Chesterfield and Coventry who were both dead and buried and cannon fodder for other sides, he threw away points being negative against Bristol Rovers and Gillingham.

Makes you laugh the same people on here moaning that Smurf is responsible entirely for his mistakes, seem to think that Brown isnt responsible for his???? The mind boggles. Brown signed a boat load of total garbage in the window and had to then go and get free agent players (also available in January too) a month later, he is not blameless at all, he had half a season to make it work and fluffed his lines. If Smurf is responsible then so is brown. We will start next season with a manager who is inexperienced and cheap like we did last year and people think its going to be ok?

What was it they said...Insanity is doing the same think over and over and expecting a different result?

Bang on, this appointment is utterly shambolic

I only had to read your username to know you would be talking tripe as usual.

So you're a physio now are you? Or is this wild conjecture? So every injury in the country by every footballer is caused by "overtraining" is it?

My uni/ early career background is sports therapy with specialisms in managing the performance of elite athletes. I was the fitness coach and pitch side therapist for Stafford Rangers when they were in the conference under Steve Bull. So I know a bit about it yeah. All brown talked about was fitness, fitness, fitness when he took over. Personally Id say that was his focus (hence why talk about it?)at the point in the season they were at the run in with postponed games to come and potentially sometimes 3 games in 7-8 days then you had to manage the squad to make sure the extra sessions of fitness didn't mean you start to pick up muscle injuries with the extra games on top.

Again, so we lose Alnwick + Santos and are left with Boot and you expect him to bring in another keeper of Jak's ability in January? Why would any club let a quality keeper go when their #1 could get injured at any point?

If you bring in a third choice keeper from a championship side then I'm sure someone would be available. Lets not forget Stoke loan Derbys reserve keeper and he turned out to be a decent keeper

I like Amoros and find it a shame he didn't get a chance. Tavares is awful, one of the slowest players I've ever seen and passes to the opposition more than a Vale player. And De Freitas played a lot under Brown so more nonsense from you yet again.

Tavares was awful in the position/ role he was asked to do. does mean he could be used effectively given his background players don't become poor players overnight, they get misused by poor managers. Speed isn't everything Toni Kroos is slow as hell but very effective

He signed a crock? I assume you're talking about Walker? So him injuring his knee ligaments in a freak incidient defines him as a "crock"? Wow. Your post gets more absurd the more I read.

Walker had returned from other previous loans with other clubs as a result of injury, he hadn't actually completed a loan spell without getting injured. Hence hes a crock

And as for suggesting keeping Paterson, you clearly haven't a clue mate!

So hang on you are moaning we havent got any strikers but you wouldn't keep Paterson in hindsight? He probably scored more than Regi and Forrester this season (might be wrong but cant be arsed to look)

You're making yourself look silly here mate. I'd advise you take your own advice and stop posting on here. We were 17th when Bruno resigned. Not midtable. 6 points above relegation and in free fall - we had won 1 out of the last 11!

Vale actually won 3 of the last 11 under Bruno not one for a start. We were 17th you are correct but free fall is nothing like what we experienced under brown. In the whole of Nov and Dec under Bruno we lost just 4 games.

Why do we have to keep saying 'lets get behind the manager' because we appoint a rookie manager. A failed one at that. I am disgusted witg Port Vale and Brown as a professional. Its Dean Glover again.

Congratulations to Michael brown, who I am certain will be a good manager and help Port Vale recover their pride and ambition.

All true Vale fans wish you well, and we offer our support in these difficult times - be sure that there are many that appreciate your efforts and know that you and those who assist you will all give your best for your club. UTV.
