How will history come to judge such a complex man? A man of violence and murder? Or, in his latter years an undoubtedly prime mover in the Northern Ireland peace process? For me he will be known forever for both of these aspects of his life, but because I was indirectly involved (2 of the girls I worked with were murdered in the Birmingham pub bombs in 1974 and I was also working in Regent Street, London when the IRA bombed Liberty's department store and the Austin Reed shop in Regent Street earlier in that same year)I will remember him first and foremest as a man with blood on his hands and conscience.

Jezza says "He was a great family man"?

For those people who suffered at the hands of the IRA they will have no good words for him. That is perfectly understandable and is a point of view that we should respect.

I ask a simple question. Should we judge a man on what he was or on what he became?

I missed the Victoria station bomb by being held up on the train because of it, saw the carnage of the aftermath so to me someone planning and placing a bomb to kill indiscriminately anyone near it should rot in hell if there's any justice, and I personally hope to dear God whatever he died of made him suffer.

As to "should we judge a man on what he was or on what he became", the first part yes we should, as to the latter he did what he did for his own ends, as first minister he did not think of all the people his actions affected...and when the other murderer adams goes I hope he really suffers.

The 2 of them should have been charged with war crimes.

rant over, getting ready for the match now... 0-2.

To be fair JC isn't the only one whitewashing his past...May and Farron have done the same.

We are what we have done and he could never undo what he did and so could never undo what he was. However, we have peace now in Northern Ireland and he played his part in that..long may it continue.
