Newspaper of the year

That's a complete contradiction

Acceptance, equality and fairness would mean treating the Mail etc the same as every other newspaper not treating them differently cos you don't like the content.

Silencing the opposition is a left-wing value and the 'No Platform' mob try to ensure that everyone tows the line.

I suppose nobody likes to lose political power though?

[Hate crimes HAVE gone up,

the definition of what constitutes a 'hate crime' has changed dramatically recently. calling somebody 'shorty' if they're short,or 'Taffy' if they're welsh can now be classed as 'hate crimes', even if theyre happy to be known by those names.

(that's according to the hate filled , Evil, racist, fascist, Daily Mail, the very same Daily Mail that sells over one and a half million copies daily )

so of course those accused of the offence have gone up, as have more and more innocent phrases and nick names that are now deemed to be 'hateful'

Urban myths about Stalin and Mao wont get you far.

And rubbish like saying you cant call someone shorty - show me a prosecution or an arrest where someone has been fined or whatever for that.

We're not talking silly schoolyard name-calling here, but the sort of thing where vulnerable teenagers have committed suicide after hundreds of hate-filled Facebook and Twitter messages, where people have been driven out of their homes or attacked in the streets and yes, if you were worth the time I'd give you examples - but if you just look for yourself these things are all too common.

And it makes no difference that the Mail sells 1.5m copies, that just shows how many bigots there are, proving my point.

This is because these ‘crimes’ (the police and Home Office have given up on the word ‘allegations’) are simply things that have been told to the police, often through their phone or email hotlines. The police instantly – record them as hate crimes, with no need for questioning or investigation of any kind. Every single person who phones a hate-crime hotline is believed.

No evidence is required,enough said.

I only buy The Guardian/ Observer and that's only of a weekend. I wouldn't say it reflects my own views - I want to hurl it through the nearest window sometimes and they've been pretty unsupportive of Jeremy Corbyn - but it's probably the closest to them. Having said that, I probably pay closer attention to the recipes and book reviews than any actual comment. I used to buy the Independent too but it went kapput. There aren't really any other options if you don't want a Murdoch paper or a tabloid.

Complete and utter horse ****. And, yet again, just cut and pasted from another site (one that is vehemently against anti hate-speech legislation, natch).

Can't you at least credit the posts you nick from elsewhere, or are you hoping that we believe you have the wherewithal to formulate your own arguments?

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Where have I censored you? Try quoting me again, but actually read the posts you are quoting this time.

What are you talking about Russia Today for? You don't see any posts from me because I've never posted about it. Quite how you can claim I've contradicted myself and then even admit that you've never seen me post about it is beyond me?

Regarding Child Porn/Terrorist Manuals etc etc, I shouldn't even have to answer this, it's such a poor point. We're talking about lawful newspapers in this thread, and to be more specific; the nations favourite newspaper.

Wow, page 10 of the thread and it's the first time anyone has posted an actual example of the daily mail 'spreading hate' and you only had to go back as far as the 1930s.

And crime stats are complete and utter rubbish most of the time. As someone has quite rightfully pointed out, the definition of hate crime has been blown up and as someone else has said those numbers are made up of people reporting crimes, not of evidenced crimes with secured convictions. Maybe the Jo Cox killer was influenced by islam extremists killing hundreds of people across europe over the past few months? I don't think the daily mail is responsible for that.

The Independent stopped publishing but the reduced version, the "i" still publishes, is only 50p and only about 30p if you buy it on subscription. I really like it.

I buy the 'i' newspaper every now and again, and The Observer on a Sunday which I read throughout the week when I get the chance. And I subscribe to The Economist and The Cricketer magazines.....

I subscribe to Patchwork & Quilting but I want to keep that a secret.

YOu would simply not believe the number of newspapers my better half buys on a Sunday!

The digital version of the Independent is available on line, with a tablet version too.
