Chris Birchall: Vale paying for 'risk' last summer

When they have played in a World Cup for their respective countries you may have an argument to back up such a ludicrous statement.

To be fair Worcs, he jumped on the bandwagon ( can't blame him ) to get selected for Trinidad. It is as unlikely the 2 players would get in the French team as it was for Birchall to play for England his proper country .

Either way our starting eleven this season is better than last seasons

That's because Smurthwaite said he'd never let another Exeter debacle happen to Port Vale under his watch again. He revealed his High Profile manager - Bruno Ribiero, yes that's him - yes the one who used to play for Leeds.

He went out and signed players from all over the continent League1,2 and B teams. Throw in a couple of injury prone players. Loads of midfielders, we don't need centre half cover. We'll just borrow and beg strikers, loads of them about.

Supporters are putting some facts and valid reasons as to why we perceive the club to be in a mess. The ones who won't accept it slate those posters and offer no real debate as to why we shouldn't worry.

An ex player comes out and says it how it is and he is slated as having sour grapes.

I'm not sure what it will take for some supporters to wake up to the fact that we are in a huge mess which cannot be rectified by a simple management change or buying a couple of players.

I posted my concerns in May/June and gave my reasoning, I received abuse from the "Optimists", the same happened in December. When asked repeatedly "What is the reason for your optimism, absolutely none to a man gave any reasons or reasoning whatsoever to support their view yet the same posters still keep posting the same poor judgement. This squad as it stands will struggle in Lge 2.

The problem with realism is that sooner or later it comes and bites you on the ar*se hence Vale's current predicament.

The mandate for success in my opinion should of been for the last 2 seasons, quality over quantity.

Let us look at the Keeping situation, why on earth had we 5 keepers on the books? i understand 2 were out on loan but come on.

We could of done like Donny and Bury did last season when they loaned Chris Neal. Gone with Alnwick and AN Other, then if an injury loan a decent back up.

But the loan rules changed this season so we couldn't do what Donny and Bury did last season when they loaned Neal in February and March respectively.

I stand corrected then, but my sentiment remains the same , why on earth does a league 2 club need 5 keepers, irrelevant of whether they are out on loan or not.

The foreign lads are better than Birchall, Mcgivern, Leitch smith, dickinson, Duffy, Campion and Daniel. Either way our starting eleven this season is better than last seasons.

Obviously sour grapes from someone who pinched a living from football.

Campion English then?

Results don't agree Leitch Smith would be leading scorer and we wouldn't have let as many goals in so much for Smurfs experiment

That's why he,s scored one goal in thirteen games at Shrewsbury. His goals were drying up before he left Vale.

But he was greedy and moved clubs.

How many did he score last season? How many did Dodds score and who will replace those goals this season ........Stop dodging the answer who will replace those goals ?

For the same reason Pope waxes lyrical about the likes of Yates. Birchall was not good enough despite the tripe we have now, the fact he ended up at Kidsgrove speaks volumes.

He isn,t telling us anything we don't know. Where was the voice of reason at the end of September when we had won 5 in a row.

Showed no loyalty by joining Coventry and incredibly playing at a World Cup cos his grandmother bought a Trinadadian poodle once.

He then bemoans Vales' lack of loyalty to him with poor wage offers, hardly a clamour of clubs banging his door down in the summer.

Bog off Birchall, wise after the event springs to mind.

Absolutely mind boggling this post ... Chris should be a player who is celebrated and to be proud of who come from the VALE youth ranks
