Port Vale made dramatic changes last summer

Birchall, who left Vale last summer, has posted his opinion of the club's problems on his Facebook page.

He has made clear that he feels the club should have done more to keep together a squad that finished 12th in the league last season.

He posted: "Shame to see what's happening on the pitch but it was a big risk, since 2013 the squad was very good. Eleven players out of contract at the end of last season all personally wanted to stay and I know that for a fact. Ten of us left and were forced away from the club due to 40/50% cuts but that's business and have to accept that and move on.

"Fifteen- sixteen new foreign signings came in. Some on a lot more money a week than ones that had left and not half as good or anywhere near as experienced.

"Once the nucleus of any squad leaves then the team spirit takes a while to be replaced and what we had for the past three years had that in abundance. Fans aren't daft they see this, and the grass isn't always greener. Give me last year's squad any day!"

Ok there may be sour grapes in this article, but also a lot of home truths. Also in the Sentinel an article about Stokes centre half on loan at Bristol Rovers, and getting rave reviews, is their an embargo on Stoke lads being loaned out up the road.

I would not say so an honest view of what has created the turmoil and demise of our club.

Sour grapes from a ex player who wasn't good enough to make kidsgrove athletics starting eleven

What he says is true about the players all being offered massive pay cuts to force them away, the foreign lads not being as good or experienced and it taking time to replace a nucleus of a squad. Which of that is sour grapes?

Not an assumption. You not figured out that I speak to people within the club quite often?

Who? Players? Programme seller?

You still havent answered a previous question. Do you think what Birchall said is untrue? What he said were facts that are hard to argue against.

The foreign lads are better than Birchall, Mcgivern, Leitch smith, dickinson, Duffy, Campion and Daniel. Either way our starting eleven this season is better than last seasons.

Obviously sour grapes from someone who pinched a living from football.

Unbelievable stuff. You're just a troll posting this same stuff over and over. Granted I'll give you Campion and Daniel. But better than last years starting 11? The facts just don't bear it out. The only improvements been the 2 centre halves this season.
