I know he's had his critics, but I think there's a good player in there. He just needs to be in a more advanced role. In flashes, he's looked great, and clearly has talent.

 

I like to see him at least on the bench and, once he's fit for a higher tempo game, allowed to affect the game in the final third.

 

It would be a shame to just let him fade out of the picture.

He's way too slow to keep up with the speed of the game in central midfield. Too many players are in front of him now, especially with Foley coming back. Get rid.

Showed some real quality early season, then died off completely, & I believe we have much better now anyway. Like others say, too slow to keep up, & when he has the ball, slows everyone else down. So yes, I'd get rid. Probably one of the slightly higher earners out of all of the summer imports as well so could do with his wages off the books.

I wonder whether he could play in the holding role.

He has good technique, experience, hopefully reads the game well and lightning pace is not essential.

I like him but I'm not sure the English Third Division is for him. Given time on the ball, he clearly has quality, he just doesn't get any time on the ball.

Tavares might work well with someone like Guy who has pace... I liked him at the start of the season but doubt we will see him again in a Vale shirt.

 

I would say Tavares is the name I've seen on fans shirts more than anyone else when you are at Vale Park which shows how he was viewed early season.

I like him. Think he gives 100% and has some really quality on the ball. As mentioned in the thread he started really well and completely died off. I imagine in Portugal he's a great player with time on the ball here less so, also far too slow. Maybe a holding role or just playing without grant may help him.

Will benifit from being in a side without Grant as both players are too slow to play together.

 

That being said, with all the new midfield signings I cant see him being involved very much and wouldnt be surprised to see his contract cancelled in the not so distant future.

Early season, he played a few really good games, & showed one or two particular bits of skill I don't recall ever seeing the likes of down Vale Park, but turned pretty awful soon after.

 

The important part, like you say, is showing some quality (consistently), & he hasn't done that in a long time. Like I said before though, think we have much better now, so I'd let him go. Unlikely to feature much more unless we get a lot of injuries towards the end of the season now anyway.

I think the writing is on the wall for these 3. Certainly Mbamba and Shalaj didn't look promising for me.
