Kick-off time grumble!

I must say I think the kick-off time v Spireites is a bad one.

 

Our evening games have had some really poor gates so far this season. Those games are set by the fixture planners back in June, whereas this game was due for a 3pm kick-off on New Year's Eve. Given that it's no big distance between the two clubs, we could have stayed with that date - and if not, stay with the 3pm kick-off.

 

Assuming we need every penny we can get through ticket sales, I would imagine a 3pm kick-off would have seen a better crowd in attendance (even after the Walsall horror-show).

 

Given it's possibly the start of a new era with Michael Brown in charge, I think we'd have had a fair gate. Now I think we'll struggle to top 4k....and maybe struggle to top 3k!

 

This evening kick-off time means pretty much anyone from outside the area hoping to get there and back by trains can forget it.

 

So there you go....I think it's poor!

 

 

 

I agree. There is ample evidence that evening matches at Vale Park attract (even) lower gates than Saturday afternoon fixtures, so why this decision was made is beyond me too.

I wasn't upset when they switched the Vale game although I realise some people would find it inconvenient. I waited until Sky had announced their live New Year games before booking a couple nights in the North East so I could go to Newcastle v Forest on the Saturday. Two weeks after the Sky announcement and after I had booked a couple of nights up there at a cheap. non-cancelable rate, the Newcastle police told the club they had to move the game because it clashed with the New Year's Eve WinterFest in the town. So it got switched to Friday night!!!

 

Now bearing in mind that the fixtures came out in June and New Year's Eve has always been on 31st December, I wonder which brain dead copper took that long to realise there was a clash!! I'll now have to spend my NE visit trawling the Sales instead. Tragedy.
