Has any one else heard of a football manager "Having" to give 3 months notice, usually the club approaches the managers current club and asks for permission to speak to the target, if the managers club refuse permission and the manager really wants to come to you he resigns therefore freeing himself up.

If you ask me Smurf is spinning a line.

It could state it in his contract, usually it is bought out, Norman may be unwilling to do that if he has an alternative manager available, the other manager may have had second thoughts. There are so many things going on I just go with the flow, each day is closer to a new manager. Did not Man City have to wait a few months for their new man?

So he claims an increase in the budget to first season levels, yet offers some very good players cuts to their wages? Makes no sense to me. It is going to cost more money to bring in players to replace the standard of those lost.

Good players??? I'll have a pint of what your on mate.

Remind me, where have these good players ended up?

Personally I think Smurf Is playing a blinder here by having a huge clear out and breathing some fresh air through the club and let's face it the players that have gone were very much in their comfort zone at Vale we need hungry players to drive us forward. With regards to Page it was obvious the relationship was frosty since the Exeter game so he was never going to back him but I honestly believe Smurf is right to take his time in picking his new manager because I'm sure he's going to back him for a push at promotion next season, full of supprise's is our Norm!

I was told about 6 weeks before the end of the season that the intention was to sack Page when the season was over. Didn't believe it at the time. Judging by some of Norman's recent tweets, however, I can believe that was the case - he seems to have wanted Page out one way or another. If that is the case though, I assume he must have had plans in place to replace him and if that was the case, why allow Page to do the retained list? I very much doubt that the amount of compensation we received was worth all this hassle.

Just when Norman seemed to be sorting his act out a bit, we now get this. I don't believe it's actually true, it seems a ridiculously elaborate way of getting rid of the manager and certain players, and parts of it don't make any sense at all.

In interviews towards the end of the season, Page stated that the club had already started recruiting for next year. If Norman already had plans in place to get rid of Rob, why would he be doing this (and will these players still be coming here, or to Northampton or left in limbo)? It's all lies, isn't it?

The thing is, regardless if it's hogwash or true, Norman comes out of this looking really shoddy. Sneaky, malicious and cheap. A club's ability to attract quality has a lot to do with it's standing in the game, particularly if they're not a wealthy one. Anyone asking around about Port Vale wouldn't come away with a favourable impression, thanks to behaviour like this. If I was a player researching potential clubs to move to, there isn't a chance I would ever consider signing for Smurthwaite's club.

It's ridiculous that he's volunteered this information himself. Whatever people think of the players we had offered new contracts to, to openly admit/ lie and state that basically you were playing games with their careers - some of them loyal servants, some of them young lads trying to make their way in the game - is an utter effing disgrace. I know some on here think that Chris Birchall is practically the anti-christ but to say that you only offered a player (who offered to play for us for free) a contract due to some machiavellian scheme... **** off. That's just nasty, even if it is utter claptrap.

Better start applying for liquidation.
