Damn it I'm away from Sunday as it would have been great to share a beer and put a face to the moaning

In all seriousness if you want a ticket for a tenner for Rochdale I have a stub from the Burton game spare.

I dont drink but would have bought you a beer just to stop you praising smurf for a couple of minutes while you drink it :D

OVF are doing a sponsorship so Im trying to get up there to see Rob and a few more [no idea who else is going] but thanks for the offer

I noticed the BBC programme on Tax Havens makes no mention of the finances of The Guardian which are lodged in a tax haven even their offices are owned overseas. So The Guardian avoids paying tax in the UK,hypocrisy or what?

My main interest is Smurf's thinking. Let us be honest, it has largely been a better season than I expected, despite Smurf's budget cuts at least initially on the season before. If he does not cut the budget, I would say we have a better chance of challenging with a budget the same.

My question would be what Smurf hopes to achieve by cutting budgets because it won't get him any more money.

Pushing for promotion and getting to the Championship will however.

I think even if he cuts it by 20% on this season and we use it better on a smaller better quality squad we'd still have a really good chance of the top 6 next season looking at what's potentially coming down and up.

To be fair to Smurf he faces a Port Talbot steel works situation. That loses a £1 million a day and nobody can sustain that. Smurf says he is significantly in the red at Port Vale, although he may be able to manage his way out of that via a sale and maybe fixed asset diversification. But Port Vale in its current format and level of support looks, as it has done for most of its history, to be inherently loss making. So I am hoping for a dignified exit by Smurf who leaves with his cash replenished and his reputation as part of saving Port Vale intact, whilst a new owner comes in who can provide a new progressive direction that is more viable on and off the pitch.
