At least we have a representation of different ideologies. Can anyone say what ideological differences there are between Blair and Cameron? Not policy differences but ideological.

Sorry Andyregs but Corbyn is in an ideological time warp.He won't last 'til the next General Election.I'm surprised he hasn't named Scargill in his shadow cabinet yet.

The working population will back him because he offers hopes of a fairer and more equal society where the poorer paid workers won't slave to feed the mega wealthy.

At last the Labour party might stand to benefit the people that the party was formed to represent.

The election result suggests the careerist politicians are more out of touch with their party. My point is that there is at least real choice. Not a pretend choice between very little difference that the media tells us is best for us. I'm not suggesting he will win. We are a conservative country so it's a big ask unless you make the party the Tory b team.

I think it is great for politics in some ways that Corbyn is leader of the Labour party. It's clearly a different path to New Labour who weren't offering any answers to the electorate on how they were going to changes things realistically. There will be a very thick line between Labour and the tories now, as opposed to the thin, grey line we saw at the last election. Whatever you think of Corbyn, he's been very open in his opinions and policies.

Sadly though as JA says, I don't think he'll last longer than 18 months. Whilst there is obviously a call for a mainstream political party that promotes socialism, I don't think it's anywhere near as big as some people would believe, hence why there hasn't been a socialist government for many, many years. If we'd listened to the people at the election shouting loudest at the General Election, it was the left-leaning supporters who were desperate to get their point across. It didn't work as the quiet ones voted Tory and outgunned the rest of the party support.

Will there be some sort of split in Labour? Possibly, but I doubt it. I would expect the Liberal Democrats and some of the other fringe parties to come back into play and gain support in the vacant centre ground as Labour move to the left. The result in our voting system will be that some parties will get a few more votes, but because of the split across Labour and centre parties, they may get more as a collective but not enough as a single party to oust any Tory MPs.

Fortunately for him AR,young people can't remember what the likes of Corbyn,Scargill,Foot etc tried to do to this country. We've,thankfully, moved on from those days.I can only see turmoil in the 'new' Labour Party.Unless the whole of the party back him the Conservatives will have an unbelievable easy ride for the seeable future.
