Congratulations to Jeremy Corbyn

The election of the labour (shadow) cabinet was ended back at the start of Ed Miliband's leadership, so JC can't really be blamed for this. I do think that he'll choose as wide a ranging as possible (eng?) cabinet in an attempt to assuage some of the Blairites. Some of the chumps who have resigned can just do one though. He has a massive mandate and for them to then run off shrieking is a disgrace.

I know the rule was changed about electing the shadow cabinet four years ago. I just thought a bloke like Corbyn who was so keen on the power of the ballot box might want to bring it back. The problem for the PLP is that Corbyn's massive mandate does not come from there but from outside of Parliament. He struggled to get enough MPs to nominate him and had to resort to getting some names on his nomination papers on the basis that although they weren't going to vote for him, it was good to have a widened debate on the issue. A wonderful example of the law of unintended consequences by the way! The Party in the country may want him as their leader but the Party in Parliament didn't and this is where his problems are going to lie. He cannot in all conscience demand loyalty to the party whip either in view of his own record on that score!

Corbyn's dream of equality is that we all have **** all.

It's an idea, a **** idea but an idea all the same!

Christ poor Kkkarl will be reading this whilst hiding in his footwell, run for the hills man

Will anyone want to join him in the shadow cabinet...

Trident, NATO, maybe. Doubt the latter would or could happen; my initial reaction is that I'd be delighted if we got rid of the former. Renationalising essential public services? Great.

You see, I think this is extreme...

Britain is continuing to defy the UN by selling arms to countries where child soldiers are routinely used or where youngsters are targeted in war zones. Before the world’s largest arms and security fair, which starts in London on Tuesday, the government is ignoring UN requests that it “expressly prohibit” such sales.

New figures reveal that of the 23 countries listed by the UN for grave violations against children or where child soldiers are used, the UK sold military equipment to 19 during the past five years. They also reveal that between June 2010 and March 2015 the government approved military licences worth more than £735m to countries blacklisted by the UN committee responsible for protecting the rights of the child.

Fresh concerns over the government’s relationship with the British arms industry are compounded by the confirmation that several regimes condemned for their record on human rights received an official invitation to the Defence and Security Equipment International Exhibition exhibition in London’s Docklands.

I think the fact that, in the 6th or 7th wealthiest country in the world, people are so destitute that they need to use foodbanks, is extreme. I think people killing themselves because of cruel and ideological cuts to welfare is extreme. I think that the way the latest budget has impacted worst on single working parents is extreme.

But, no, you get upset about a man wanting to renationalise the trains.

I don't actually think renationalising the trains is that bad IF the service improves.

What I'd object to is leaving ourselves with no defence (that's not the same as selling arms overseas which is deplorable and I think we are second worldwide on that list), printing money to get ourselves out of the mess Labour spending put us in and most of all to working for around 10p in the pound.

Remember, all animals are equal, it's just some are more equal than others.

The next few months will certainly be interesting.

Congratulations and good wishes to the new leader of the labour party, good to have an honest party leader at last, with all due respect to the new Liberal leader who I don't know enough about to include in that comment.

Time for all people of integrity to stop being used by big business, crooked bankers and slimy profiteers.

Good luck to him indeed as the country needs a strong opposition.

That said it has to be a credible strong opposition and I can't help thinking this is going to put them further away from challenging for power as even key members of the shadow cabinet, party and indeed trade unions are worried about him. To me he has the extreme opposite of Farage stamped all over him.
