I don't get the ******** who signed the peition to resinstate him..at the time they were doing so they could not possibly have knonw what had happened. The petition was Just a bit of fun to them i guess

The Beeb may possibly have seen this as an opportunity to get rid of Clarkson but he gave them the opportunity and on balance it was probably the right decision. Top Gear has been looking rather tired lately so a revamp was probably due anyway

Should have all been kept quiet rather than being leaked out to the press as per usual.

Why should the guests in the hotel who had nothing to do with the BBC but saw/heard all of this going on keep it quiet? This wasn't in the workplace, it was in a pretty public place with members of the public as witnesses.

Clarkson will probably be back in a few years time anyway, working again for the BBC following Jonathon Ross, who is now back on BBC Radio 2 after getting sacked for gross misconduct following his Ross/Brand incident on Mr.Sachs and his family a few years ago,BBC hypocrisy or what?

Ross did not get sacked. He was suspended and then continued in post leaving before or at the end of his contract to go to ITV. Ross was caught up in offensive commentary largely initiated by Brand. That is far less serious in employment law than punching and abiding a work colleague face to face. It is simply failure to show judgement and comply with corporate policies. The BBC has little choice but to end working with Clarkson because it owes a duty of care to the member of staff who has suffered. Clearly Clarkson continuing could only occur by agreeing a new contract with him - showing total disregard for the misconduct - and with detriment to the assistant producer who would have to be moved which visits detrimental consequences upon him unfairly when he is the victim.

On what grounds? Gray committed his offence whilst working for Sky and was rightly dismissed (I think Keys actually chose to leave). Clarkson (despite being a thug and an idiot) has committed no offences as a sky employee has he?

I think the exclamation mark at the end of Jean's post may suggest her post was tongue in cheek
