Was not the pitch heavily re-seeded during the close season? New grass grows fast, especially if fertilized, well watered, with warm weather, sun etc. So longer than usual, denser, maybe layered, will tend to slow the ball down more than usual. But how much do we train on it, so as to be able to judge passing on it better than the visiting team? Should players be able to adapt during a game? If this is a problem for visiting teams we need to use it to our advantage, similar to Luton`s plastic pitch in the 70`s?

If the grass grows quicker because its a new pitch, surely isn't it just a matter of cutting it more often.

Is it just me who thinks having the grass longer is a sly tactic. That makes all three managers that have mentioned the pitch now ass smith mentioned it in a tv interview. I think we know we ain't the slickest footballing side but the teams we are coming up against are so it slows there play slightly. Either way who cares I like that people are moaning about coming to vale park it's a good sign.

MY heart bleeds for the away managers - poor little loves.

I agree - but it is a surprise that we appear to have 'lost' well over 1000 fans from the last home league game (Brentford).

It does make a change to the atmosphere when the away fans make some noise, instead of seeing a few dozen hardy souls from Dagenham or Barnet on the Hamil End.

It helps our finances too!

I don't think it's a surprise at all that the home gate was down.

SoT is a an area of low wages. We have had 3 homes games in the first 4 matches and the next home game against Wolves is the one game that no one wants to miss. We were shocking in the previous game.

I fully expect a minimum of 7,500 plus Vale for the Wolves game and a total gate over 11,000.
