Rob Page: Is he leaving? will he stay?

A loss to us, but a strange one. Especially with him beings Adams assistant. To be fair, it's hard for us to judge his credentials. Crewe was Steve Davis' first league team, but sheff utd fans would like him. You have to start somewhere, though you do expect sheff utd to have gone with someone with more experience. However sheff utd aren't the team they were and their finances definitely aren't.

Spot on, I fully agree.

I can't understand why RP would be interested in managing a club like SU. I can appreciate that people have ambition and that they want to get on in life and stand on there own 2 feet as it were, but football is one of those professions where loyalty counts for nothing, longevity is extremely rare & reputations can soon be destroyed in a matter of months in a "results matter" environment.

RP has a job where he is respected by the owner, his manager & the squad. His position is relatative safe & he has the opportunity to build on his reputation & a promotion without being in the firing line. He has a future at VP, something that Sheff Utd have not been able to provide to any of their recent managers.

If Rob does want to get into management I'm sure there are a few league clubs that have the reputation of giving people a fighting chance to adapt to their new surroundings, allow them time to steady the ship and support them when things are not going to well.

As MA will justify, Sheffield United are not one of those clubs. Not ALL of their previous managers could be wrong, therefore the problem lies within the club.

If you do go Rob, then I wish you luck but I'm 100% certain that you will be comitting professional & reputational suicide.

Probably because he'd triple his salary overnight. If he got the sack he'd get the remainder of him contract paying up so it would be a gamble worth taking. Good luck to him if he gets the job.

Not sure if that would be right after reading what an Aussie coach said after being interviewed,he said the contract offer was a very poor one.

Also he said that the board wanted him to play long ball when he said he wanted to bring short passing football to the club,so i guess it will be what Page wants to do in his career and how he would want his teams to play.I hope he stays as i can see him being a future Vale manager.

Yes, here's his quote.

The 49-year-old former Australia boss, who won the A-League with the Central Coast Mariners last season, told the Australian that the Blades had interviewed him for their vacant position. But, after a video call which included United director and former manager Dave Bassett, Arnold said he had no hesitation in turning the job down.

He told the newspaper: "In all honesty, I didn't have to think too long or too hard about it. It just wasn't for me.

"Forget that the financial offer in itself was quite poor, but I would have been taking three steps backwards in my development as a professional coach if I had gone.

"I walked out of that meeting with the club's board and football director Dave Bassett, and said 'Wow'. It just blew me away.

"Being one of the bigger lower league clubs, I was expecting a lot more in terms of how they wanted to develop as a club on the field.

"But they just didn't seem interested when I was talking about playing a short passing game and taking the football another level up. It was about smashing the ball long and working on set-pieces . . . it was prehistoric stuff.

"That's not the way to develop a football team."

Looks like it is all down to Sheffield United really, if they offer him the job he would be unlikely to turn it down, he is obviously interested since he has been out to Spain for an interview. Depends how the talks at the "top secret location" go. Assuming they tell him where it is and he can find it! lol

I don't think that Page's contribution was properly acknowledged last season and tbh who could blame him moving for this job.

It's all very unsettling but I guess that MA has been aware of the possibility for some time and will have someone lined-up.
