i genuinely am bemused at how many people use terms like 'Rock' and 'solid' and 'good' for him. I must be blinking or something when he does these things. His strength should be his height and ability to dominate to make up for his lack of pace. He is poor in the air and doesnt dominate or attack the ball in any way. Good move for us.

 

Agree always looks like he's going to make a mistake to me.

After Joe Davis had a nightmare against Burnley at the start of the season, McDonald came on and made a huge difference at the back. However, Joe Davis definitely looks like a quality player for the future, the two new lads Chilvers and Purse look very assured and to be honest, McDonald won't be good enough for league 1 next season.

You are right. If Clayton was a half-decent defender we'd have been pushing for promotion at the top end of the table by now.

Some harsh criticism on here, he's been ok this season. We got into the top 2 with him in the team don't forget. Best of luck at Bristol Clayton!

I'm not suggesting Clayton is a world-beater, but he at least deserves a little credit for his contribution in putting us at the top of the table this season. Yes, hes made a few errors, but hes also bailed us out a few times, thats the nature of L2 football. Hes unlucky to be the one shipped out because hes no worse than Chilvers and the 'even slower' McCombe and hes less of a liability than Davis. I can only think something has happened behind the scenes to have fallen out of favour so quickly.

I dont think we'd be in any worse position had he been replaced by any of our other defenders or most centre halves in the league.

I am just glad we are in a position to do things like this now! Can't recall last time we loaned one of our weaker players to a team in our own league, shows how far we have come.

 

Had a great start to the season but did start to struggle in my eyes. Good decision by MA in my opinion, maybe free up a wage to offer Pope a better deal?

Has been an average defender in an average league two defence. If we're aspiring to be better than that, I think we need to look elsewhere. As with many players, thanks for the contribution and effort.
