Yes exactly, he was surprisingly good in possession and also capable of a forward run when the opportunity presented.

Somebody hit the nail on the head when they said McDonald wasn't aggressive enough. He isn't. Nor is he vocal. I don't think he really 'bullies' his striker as much as he should. A player like him has to be a leader and take more responsibility. Once he does that he will be far more of an asset to a side. The contrast was very clear when you look at how Purse marshalled the back four at Gillingham.
