Youth Academy

The new owners' plans to set up a youth academy is a laudable idea but will it be wasted on Adams. Let's face it, his record in bringing young players through the ranks is not very impressive. It seems as though he prefers to bring in 'seasoned' players with no potential rather than giving the youngsters a chance. I note for example that neither Lloyd nor Davies were on the bench yesterday. What do they have to do to earn a chance? It must be very dispiriting for them. Is it that they just aren't good enough or is it another example of Adams' short sighted attitude. Comments please.

I think Davies deserves a run in the side! He's got loads of potential but he will only get better with experience. Chiltern should be cover for Clayton and Joe! Adams seems to like experience so I doubt they will much of a chance this season. It's the one thing that dissapoints me with Adams. He needs to show some faith in our youth

It costs an absolute fortune to run a top class academy. Crewe only manage it by occasionally selling a player. To acheive that they have to be patient and give lads chances in the first team and put up with them making mistakes. Contrast that with Adams substituting Joe Davis after one misplaced pass vs Burnley and dropping him after two good games against Northampton and Southend.

Adams does what he wants and takes no advice anywhere. He is our manager so we have to stand by him, even though it's difficult sometimes to weigh him up and understand whatever logic he is believing in. Results eventually determine whether a manager is succesful or not and although some of us would like him to be more open and allow "younger" additions to the squad we will have to see what transpires. He will never listen to fans forums or fan advice. Let's see if the season pans out the way we want it to and only then will Adams be judged. There will be many, many on here ready to crucify him then if we are not even in the play offs.

Adams has to get results and win games. People would want him sacked and he would be if we kept losing games. Crewe use to spend the first half of the season struggling, it was only when the talent matured as such in the2nd half did it all come good.

Crewe are not playing as many new young players at the moment. Maybe this is because they know that it would impact on the performance of the team. You need good talent, being coached properly and played in the right side to get better. Maybe we should loan more young players out to be the experience they need?

Who motivates the motivator? By the same token, have we any volunteers to have a 1 to 1 with Adams to apply psychology on him.

He needs it. Jean?

No Lloyd - no -Davis - no intention of developing youth. Chilvers as cover? Where is Owen?

Academy at Port Vale? Shows utter naivety on the part of the owners. Adams will have a field day with these pair.

Priority is promotion to L1, if Adams thinks experienced players are the key, we have to go with him. It would be a lot different when a mid-table L1 club, then youngsters can be developed, for ourselves and for sale, in the first team. It will then be a management choice, either Adams will change his style when the pressure is off, or a development type manager will be brought in. We would also be in a better position to loan players from higher leagues, who are also loathe to blood players when the stakes are high.

Any system will take a number of years to introduce properly. So talk of Adams is pointless as he probably won't be with us. Starting now though, means future managers need to be appointed that fit in with the club ethos (whatever that is to be) as opposed to changing from manager to manager (as mentioned in the thread about this last week). The club should have an idea about what we want and the manager fits into that. I don't buy into the whole, 'manager makes every football decision' nonsense, as we end up starting from scratch with every managerial appointment and making no progress.

By the time we see any results from this i doubt Adams will be the manager ,as it will be a fair few years away before any players would come through.

That's a point Rudgie used to make, that the benefits of the youth system you set up go to the next manager, unless you were Ferguson or Gradi.

Which is why all football decisions shouldn't be controlled by the manager. The manager has short term goals, which is fine. The club should be dealing with long term ones. The nonsense of Adams and grew moaning about newtons youth development ideas highlighted this clearly when Adams left a few months later.

the academy is doing ok now, four parents were called in the other week to tell them their lads were being scouted by the likes of man city/liverpool

WHo are the contacts for the academy?

My nephew's son has just been let go by Stoke and so is now looking at Vale and maybe Crewe. he's 13.

They let him go because despite being fast and skilful and hard working and played out of position most of the time he's "not developed physically enough to join the next age group".

Seems the culture is the same at SCFC from the first team downwards

The reason Crewe have a successful academy is because they attract the best talent, as parents know their kids will get a chance. Ask Popey why as a Vale fan through and through he started at Crewe. Adams would go for experience every time.

Didn't he choose Vale but got released/not taken on before going Crewe?
