Chelsea v Port Vale (FAC) - Match Thread

Two points - it was never a pen - he drew contact deliberately- and Gauchi was fouled for the 5th…..not suggesting we deserved anything but those were two typical premier league decisions

And Magloire kicked through the back of him. Penalty all day long.

Playing 2 games a week for the last couple of months hasn't helped any

We were woeful when we played one game a week so that really is no excuse.

Bang on about all of the above

We know that chelsea are light years ahead of us. But why are our players so bloody slow? It's like they are running through concrete in flip flops trying to catch them? 🤷‍♂️

I think "speed of thought2 comes into it. They were very very good. I might have been a bit harsh in previous posts but it was a draining day for me from beginning to end.

Worst Vale team I’ve ever seen. This squad didn’t deserve to be in a quarter final and they put in a performance to be expected.

7-0 was embarrassing.

I’ll never say, as bad as we were that we didn’t “deserve” a quarter final.  We managed two giant killings for us in one week and if anyone wants to cheer themselves up, just watch highlights of the Sunderland game. We played very very well. Chelsea was poor, but even Magliore was great in the Sunderland match.

Having slept on it, I still no positives from yesterday at all.

On the pitch it really was an embarrasing debacle.
The fans represented the club superbly and don’t deserve the shower on show, week in week out.

Whats been on my mind is the interviews after. Nobody is angry. It’s an acceptance and those inside the club actually believe that performance was acceptable!!! And therein lies the problem.

The club, staff and players went into an FA cup quarter final, already beaten, going for a jolly up in London. And it’s unacceptable. It stems from the top. We are an easy touch and I’m fed up of it.

There comes a point under our current structure where fans say… no more, until things change.

This club is on its arse and those inside it cannot see it and are just happy to sleepwalk it’s way down the pyramid.

That performance yesterday sums up those at the top……….. Pathetic.

Totally agree the players were a disgrace to the football club yesterday in one of our biggest games in our history.

It is a great pity the player's don't appreciate our fantastic supporters. I can only agree with most a massive overall of the squad is needed. For sometime we have lacked a bit of nastiness a bit of steel! We have too many nice players! We need a bit of grit steel . We really don't do the basics

Vale were playing the World Club Champions, WTF did you expect?  I'd be angry if we lose on Tuesday, but it was reasonable to anticipate defeat away to Chelsea.  A host of their players probably earn a week more than our team earns in a month!

I think we all anticipated a defeat but the amount a player earns doesn't dictate how much passion and effort they should put in. We didn't play it like a cup game, it was a repeat of so many league games this season, just had no ambition to get at them

There are a number of other points that I that I think should be considered.

Firstly we were playing a team far physically smaller than ourselves (which must be a first) why were we not physically bossing them. At one point Sherif was even pushed of the ball by someone half his size. Now considering how easy it is to get a booking in the modern game, we only got one booking all game, Chelsea not one. In other words we never at any point got physically stuck into Chelsea, we never gave them a hard time. It was as if we set out to show them how nice we could be. We are a league 1 side away at a Premier league team team. We are never going to play nice football and beat them. Was there ever any chance of beating them, maybe 1 in a 100. But we should have been fighting for that 1 in a hundred. We should have been nasty. We should have had their manager jumping up and down at the tackles we put in. We should have had their fans up off their seats in anger at what we were doing on the pitch. At the end of the game there should never have been nice handshakes in the middle of the pitch. There should have been harsh words and be told we are not welcome back. Those are the circumstances in which we could have got that 1 in a 100 chance. Those are the circumstances in which we could have come away from that game with some pride.

You and Spunkers are both correct but only half right. The supporters have to take a lot of the blame. Its no good just beating your chest and having VTID tattooed on your bum, you too are as weak as the players you are criticising. You are sitting and watching the club go down the pan and doing nothing to stop it. GET SOME STEEL AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I tried last time but got nothing but abuse and hate mail , only to be asked "why didnt you tell us" after it was all over!!  I am too old and exhausted with it all now but still have great affection for the club, although I will never go again. Strong representations need to be made to Calamity Carol before it is too late . I wish you well.

Embarrassed , angry and let down 😡😡 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I will tell you what I expected……. A <ovf censored> fight and some passion!!!

Dont give me this crap about them being world champions and the money they earn. We rolled over against a Chelsea team in a mini crisis and they never got out of 2nd gear!!!

Had they smashed us on the eye I would accept a 7-0 defeat. They didn’t. They didn’t break sweat and we have no talent and no passion.

I expected a defeat. I didn’t expect to be embarrassed.
They didn’t break sweat and could have had 10. Easily.

So if you’re happy then good for you. That acceptance of utter tripe is running through the club.

We embarrassed ourselves with our performance. It was utterly pathetic.

Why don't you start another march? You're so proud of telling people you were at the heart of the last protests, maybe you should be front and centre of this one?
