You could argue that had we remained switched on and defended better in some games, we would have gained more points even without Cole.

Yes, and even in the 1st game with him.  I do think that goal scoring has been our biggest problem so far though, and I am confident that Cole will make a positive contribution to the team, based on what I've seen so far.  If nothing else he provides us with an outlet, that we were missing, and gives other teams something to worry about.

Just settled down to watch the goals on the EFL show on ITV……???

Game’s gone!

I’m glad Ben is back, I think we underestimate how demanding for a player/captain he is. His drive to get every single player to do what is needed. Thank goodness he’s back!!!

I'd be interested to know what DM believes his best 11 is when everyone is fit, available and not needing rotation due to too many minutes, or anything like that.  I think that it is good that there is healthy debate on here as to who is best suited for each position and what they bring to the team.  I certainly feel that genuine competition for places is much more fierce than the last time we were in this division, and we've yet to see George Hall.

No one underestimates him

Great result today well done to DM and the boys, onwards and upwards.

Only watched first half at times we were very slow ,and Gaucis made a fine save from a 1 -2 after Gordon poor headed clearance .

The first goal is down too byers winning the ball ,if isnt high pressing then that goal doesnt come about ,and R Paton finishing superbly ,second well its a fantastic through by brilliant R Paton , and Devante Cole  sprints and puts it away like the fine player he is ...

So overall at 2 -0 still felt there was lots of work do we have been on the receiving end of a 2 -0 half time lead v these before ,so even though delighted we were ruthless, in our finishing ,overall i thought we were slow and a bit poor in many areas in that first half, but 0-2 says we werent id say we were and was the most unconvincing performance of the season .

Second half seemed by stats we just sat in ,personally dont like that .

Glad for away travellers we won need play better than that for me but like i say things even themselves out we have played miles better than that and lost .

He did say before the game that we were better than our results suggested.  I'd rather have it this way round than managers saying what a good side we are after they've beaten us.  Not nearly our best performance, but we did a professional job on them today.

Record when Garrity starts since the beginning of last season:

Played 29

Won 18

Drawn 6

Lost 5

Points per game: 2.06, or 95 over a full season.

Record when Garrity doesn't feature since the beginning of last season:

Played 22

Won 3

Drawn 10

Lost 9

Points per game: 0.86, or 40 over a full season.

It can't be coincidence at this point.

Staggering stats those!

Long overdue win, and it just makes the weekend that bit sweeter, doesn’t it? Thought we played well today – though funny how we’ve probably played better in other games and got nothing from them. Football’s a strange old game.

Cole and Paton could finally be the start of a settled partnership up top. Cole’s exactly what we’ve been crying out for – calm in front of goal and looks like someone who’ll easily hit double figures. Paton looked sharp too, and having a hand in both goals will do his confidence the world of good.

Really like the look of Gauci as well. His presence gives the defence that bit of assurance, which unfortunately Marosi just doesn’t seem to provide. He looks confident, commands his box well, and it makes a big difference.

Time to kick on now. We’re a decent League One side and I genuinely think we’ll be fine this season. Can’t see past a solid mid-table finish, and I’d absolutely take that.

Well in, Vale.

Post to @Robert1888 - theres a few on here that think you are somehow related to to Rauri - If so, I think you can safely tell him that he has put smiles on 1000s of Port Vale fans faces today - someone posted earlier that they had never known a more popular Vale player - I have to agree 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😁💜💜💜💜
