I too thought his run was fantastic and it made the goal. Devante accelerated and angled the run "at/to" the right hand post but still within the frame of the goal making it more difficult for the defender to bring him down and giving himself the perfect angle to either go across the keeper to the left hand post or tuck it in at the right hand post, he chose the left hand post.

For me it was a goal of absolute beauty and quality scored by a natural goal scorer. That technique is in him, it can't be coached, it's pure instinct.

Credit to Ruari Paton for the perfect weight of pass, majestic.

Devante does look like the real deal.  Hopefully this is just the start.  We need someone how can put the ball in the net regularly. It's probably only a matter of time until he is being lambasted for being "lazy" though.  Other than his goal he was fairly quiet yesterday.  I'm fine with that, but others like to see more effort being demonstrated.

We've needed someone who can just stick the ball in the net for a long time. I don't want them to be involved in the play...I just want to stay in between the posts and stick any chance that comes their way in the back of the net. Other players can do the grunt work. As you say, people will probably moan but I genuinely don't care if he runs less than a mile a game...his goals are the important bit.

Who was that said if we sign Devante Cole it’s got a Ellis Harrison feeling about it?

Paton well i hope he turns this season around

2 on target attempts 2 goals yesterday this is how ruthless opposition have been nice for us to the ruthless side .

When Walters Ojo play a more exciting side watch the midfield yesterday just workers generally

We take the win but at times we are so awful on the ball ,booting it too no one no cohension ,poor generally in that first half yesterday .

I dont think we need 3 centre halfs i think we can do away with one .

At Birmingham was the way go for me id still have Walters and Ojo in starting line up next weekend ,we at home i dont want see opposition have double passes than us ..

Yesterday was a back to basics win still think think we have played a 1000 times better than that.

Nice get win but apart from what i saw first half  Gauci Hall Paton and Cole i wouldnt say i was thrilled with work of other 7 .

Needs to improve greatly

For me I don't want to be congratulated on how well we played as we hand over another 3 points to the opposition, winning in sport is everything for me, the more back to basic wins we have, the better  the league table will look.

Funnily enough BJ, his goal yesterday reminded me of EHs run and finish against Burton - damn, hope that's not an omen 😳😳🙈🙈😜😜

He does look the real deal QV and also the real steal for Vale.

I think it was Phil Bowers who early on said Devante was a bit quiet yesterday (I really like Bowers' commentary by the way) so I started to pay more attention to what Devante was doing  when he hadn't got the ball. All the time he was moving, cutting off back passes making angles for other players, harassing etc so he might not have had the ball at his feet but he's making runs and moving which contributes to the team play/effort.

So I hope any Vale fan  who's thinking anything like the "lazy" tag takes some time to watch what Cole actually does when he hasn't got the ball at his feet. As Ruari said in his interview,, "It doesn't look like Devante is running, he just glides over the surface like a Sadio Mane".

it wouldn't surprise me that Lge 1 defenders concentrate more and more on Devante Cole which should give more space and time for other Vale players to score goals.

Can anyone who watched the game tell me if we left someone on the half-way line when Exeter had any corners ?

I noticed we did at home against Stevenage and just wondered if it was a one-off.

Personally I'd like to see two or even three left up, forces the opposition to leave more men defending and it reduces the chance of the ball coming straight beck into the area if we do manage to head it away from the goal area.

Problem is statistically from corners teams which leave all players back to pack the penalty areas concede less than teams who leave more space in the box than teams who leaves more gaps in the penalty areas by leaving a player or two players up front from a corner.

i think that’s why most teams do it now more players in the area means less goals conceded ..,, also it means a quick break is on with multiple players sprinting forward rather than than a loan forward trying to control a long clearance under pressure and outnumbered by  defenders then bring his own players into the game who are still trying to scramble forwards for their own penalty area.

Yer he looks good… I just hope vale fans can now start to appreciate the difference between leagues not only league 2 to league 1 but league 1 to the championship where Cole couldn’t even get a game this season.

building a club/team takes time… we are heading in the right direction I think (hope) but it won’t happen in a rush.

Oh i certainly aren't whiter than white me owd chap

Like I have said before you dont bother to read what people put before you quote them,I said I dont mind other people's opinions but i find it very telling that you quoted me assuming I was on about you being one of the pathetic ones who generally go missing during wins

Do you agree DM got it bang on yesterday

We won due to being clinical and having forwards on the pitch who can actually put the ball in the net , Do you agree that if Fal and Bruce had started the result wud have been the same ?

I advocated the signing of Cole  relentlessly and was vocal about Ruari being given a run in the side while others like yourself were happy with the chuckle brothers Fal & Bruce up top , oh well opinions vary dunner they anyway as you were

Talking of things Exeterish, I remember going down there some years ago with some mates to watch Exeter Chiefs play. We stayed in the Premier Inn by the railway station and one of the other guests told us that if we walked up a steep path at the side of the hotel there was a pub. So off we went and lo and behold it was the Imperial, a Wetherspoons pub, pretty large and in very nice grounds. As it was a nice day we parked ourselves at an outside table and one of my mates saw a leaflet about the Wetherspoons App. The App was downloaded and we ate and drank for hours, only leaving our table to go to the loo. We didn't get to the game until half time, by which time all the points had already been scored. Have been back many times since and always have a session in the Imerial.

Didn’t you also advocate that Moore wouldn’t take us up last season? And he should have been sacked when we were top 3? Pretty sure you did Nostradamus 👍

To be honest if we win the last 38 games like that id be delighted .

Just goes show if do the basics you might win games .

The away following enjoyed it thats what its all about ,as didnt go i enjoyed seeing the finishing and build up to both goals but having not paid too go it was more for those who went than me .

Port Vale have 2 magnificent strikers though if going shut up shop at half time bring on 2 midfielders as playing with 2 strikers seems pointless if not bothered about crossing the half way line too feed them .

I think we could have scored more personally but happy with 2 and Gauci making 2 decent enough saves .

We move on

Cole is everything you want in a striker, and Paton well i think he is clever enough put Cole in on goal like Dalglish used too do  when playing with Rush.

Devante Cole can put thousands on Vale gates ,and so can R Paton ,leave Faal on bench till he learns hard work starts at the front in closing down, as easy possession for league 1 teams with any modium of ability they will punish us
