I have just been on Wikipedia to find out who their number 43 was as I thought he was excellent.

Callum Whelan. On loan to us in 2019. Absolutely no recollection of him whatsoever.

Hardly played for us from what I remember and he was obviously very young then too.

From a Carlisle fan in peace.
Chuffed most of you gave us at least a bit of credit, which makes life a little bit sweeter after some moronic comments on here from some of your fans how you were going to put 5/6 past us.
I actually though that despite some of the comments on here about PV 'not trying' Vale were decent if not outstanding, they 'were' trying but I honestly thought we were simply better, wanted it more, were more aggressive, technically better, absolutely fought for every ball and Hughes got his tactics absolutely spot on!
The last 20 mins were probably the most nervous I've ever been at a football match, and thought it was going to be 'typical Carlisle' somehow blow away a three goal lead, thankfully the stars were aligned today.
Anyway I still don't think we'll be able to do enough to stay up, but at least with that performance it can give us a whole lot of belief , whether we do take the drop or not.
And as far as your boys are concerned, I honestly think you'll be OK.
All the best and thanks for the 3 points
Nearly believed you until thanks for the three points off you go

We were nonchalant and disorganised against a really poor side. That was honestly the worst defence we could have come up against and put them under very little pressure. Any pressure they did have resulted in chaos and panic. Big balls up because they were there for the taking if Garrity, Croasdale et al had got off the bus.

I don’t think he ever played. Think it was just before Askey came in when Smurthwaite went around bringing in randomers on loan on the deadline day before that (Toby Edser from Forest was another I seem to recall). Askey took one look at them and didn’t think they would hack a relegation scrap.

I think today is case in point as to why we needed to stay grounded after Bromley. It’s why I’ve been doing mental maths all week,

It’s nice to dream but very confident predictions we would win every game, equalling the club’s 125 year old winning streak record, was dreamland. We’ve been up and down this season and it’s only the last few weeks we’ve been truly convincing.

The pressure is on massively. These are 4th tier footballers who’ve been playing at excellent levels for weeks and are due bad days. We had two teenagers in the starting eleven who’ve simply never been in these sorts of games. These players weren’t going to play well forever.

We went away to a packed out ground, a team clearly with something to scrap for, and came unstuck. Despite that, we’re a penalty away from a draw. There’s character to this squad and today will sting.

We’re still OK. I keep expecting Walsall to nick a win, but they genuinely look awful and completely shot. 4 points will be absolutely fine and is completely attainable in the last there. If Walsall are fully finished then we’re as good as up - the only thing stopping us now is if they win more than one of their last three.

I honestly don’t care about the title. Get a win and a draw, get out the league, don’t look back. Dunna panic.

Far too level headed for this thread Joe.

some of the stuff on here beggars belief.

"against a really poor side"

Nearly believed you until the above statement 'off you go"😄

Today wasn’t a must win game, but it was certainly a must not lose one. I still think we should have enough to get promoted automatically but today has highlighted that a few players in that team/squad are not mentally strong/good enough to be playing league one football next season. Good recruitment next season will be essential.

We appear to be allergic to Cumbria - 5 games 4 defeats 1 draw!

It was typical Vale wasn’t it, everyone going well, rock up to a side that’s been bottom all season and throw in that performance. First 20 I thought we were ok, then got dragged into their long ball game rather than get it down and play and once they scored we lost our heads and were all over the place. The 25 minutes either side of half time were a disgrace, lazy, lost, the third goal sums it up when their lad simply wanted to head it more.

As I said before we needed a professional performance today, the motivation should have been the same as it was for Carlisle with what was at stake but we made them look like Barcelona at times.

Once we got the goal they were pretty shaken and we looked better and for a penalty save we get a point but leaving ourselves that much to do was criminal.

Can take losing to quality but a lack of desire and being nowhere near our levels at this point of the season was pretty soul destroying.

2022 vibes now, Grimsby is massive… don’t win that we have the daunting task of Wimbledon away needing a win (who themselves could overhaul us!).

Get bent.

Does Mr Carlisle fan know they’re 23rd and will almost certainly be playing semi-professional football next season?
