I have just been on Wikipedia to find out who their number 43 was as I thought he was excellent.

Callum Whelan. On loan to us in 2019. Absolutely no recollection of him whatsoever.

He ran the show today. I love our midfield but they all had stinkers this afternoon. Croasdale played by far his worst game and he's such an important player for us. For Walters he's played a lot of football lately and I thought it was one game too far.

"against a really poor side"

Nearly believed you until the above statement 'off you go"😄

You are where you are because you've been a poor team this season. You looked anything but today and Hughes has clearly improved you massively. But we just didn't turn up today, were miles off our best. You can say that while also giving you deserved credit. Our best beats your best. Something like our worst obviously doesn't.

Chuffed most of you gave us at least a bit of credit, which makes life a little bit sweeter after some moronic comments on here from some of your fans how you were going to put 5/6 past us.
I actually though that despite some of the comments on here about PV 'not trying' Vale were decent if not outstanding, they 'were' trying but I honestly thought we were simply better, wanted it more, were more aggressive, technically better, absolutely fought for every ball and Hughes got his tactics absolutely spot on!
The last 20 mins were probably the most nervous I've ever been at a football match, and thought it was going to be 'typical Carlisle' somehow blow away a three goal lead, thankfully the stars were aligned today.
Anyway I still don't think we'll be able to do enough to stay up, but at least with that performance it can give us a whole lot of belief , whether we do take the drop or not.
And as far as your boys are concerned, I honestly think you'll be OK.
All the best and thanks for the 3 points

Nearly believed you until thanks for the three points off you go

Yeah he had got me up to then as well Rob - the cheeky blighter🤣🤣🤣

I console myself with the assumption that there could well be two divisions between us next season 🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍

Though having said that, they will now avoid the drop and we wont be promoted - in which case, see you next season Bluebry 🙈🙈🙈👍💜

What’s a tad terrifying is that on the 18th April 2022, we conceded three in a loss. We had gone into the game 5 points clear off 4th.

It was the fourth-to-last game of the season and broke a spell of consecutive wins - a spell that had been triggered after defeat away at Colchester in March. Prior to that, we’d been drawing a lot.

We then lost the next two to fall out of the automatic promotion places after looking like shoe-ins with four games to go.

Oh brilliant, just what I needed. I’d only just stopped spiralling over the next three, and then Joe comes along with that. Cheers, mate…

Hope it is unique, it's been weirdly unenjoyable considering where we are...

You are confusing unique with successful. Hopefully the latter my fellow valiant. 🤞

It was typical Vale wasn’t it, everyone going well, rock up to a side that’s been bottom all season and throw in that performance. First 20 I thought we were ok, then got dragged into their long ball game rather than get it down and play and once they scored we lost our heads and were all over the place. The 25 minutes either side of half time were a disgrace, lazy, lost, the third goal sums it up when their lad simply wanted to head it more.

As I said before we needed a professional performance today, the motivation should have been the same as it was for Carlisle with what was at stake but we made them look like Barcelona at times.

Once we got the goal they were pretty shaken and we looked better and for a penalty save we get a point but leaving ourselves that much to do was criminal.

Can take losing to quality but a lack of desire and being nowhere near our levels at this point of the season was pretty soul destroying.

2022 vibes now, Grimsby is massive… don’t win that we have the daunting task of Wimbledon away needing a win (who themselves could overhaul us!).

Wimbledon have won 3 games from their last 13

Typical Port Vale – we just love doing things the hard way, don’t we? But honestly, today just wasn’t our day.

Carlisle were better than us for most of it and took their chances when we slipped up. Fair play to them – they’ve got a few handy players. Kelly and Fusire caused us problems, and Whelan, who had a spell with us ages ago from United, looked decent too. Their midfield diamond had us all over the place, and that’s really where we lost it.

Got to say as well, I genuinely hope they stay up. Big club, and Brunton Park is one of those proper old school grounds – cracking place to visit and always a good away day.

Second half though, we gave it a real go. Had them pinned back for long spells, and if it wasn’t for the save from Breeze, we’d have taken a point.

Got to give a special mention to Mitch Clark – absolutely top drawer again. Non-stop energy, solid all game, and easily one of our best players at the minute.

Now it’s all about Monday. Massive game. Grimsby had a stinker today, so they’ll be right up for it to stay in the mix for the play-offs.

As for us, it’s simple – six points from the next nine and we’re going up. I know I’ve been guilty of it too, but let’s not get caught up worrying about everyone else. Back the lads, stay behind them, and let’s get this done. After the last few weeks, I really believe we will.

Bring on Monday – can’t wait to see another 10,000+

It’s league 2 for a reason, players are up & down! Let’s be up on Monday, win & we are almost there!

I think 5 points will do it because of the Bradford/Doncaster match.

Sadly predictable from Vale today against a poor Carlisle side who simply wanted it more.  As soon as we started playing with any tempo the game changed but concede 3 goals and you’re never likely to get owt, and so it proved.  Players need to have a good look at themselves before Monday.

Cart Off!

I thought it was a great fight back after being 3 goals down. Yes, we were very poor for 50 mins, but it was a battling performance second half . Tolaj seemed to telegraph his kick , but the keeper saved well. Had it gone in we would have been hailing a brilliant comeback , but in the end I suppose Carlisle deserved all the points . We’re still top , and a win against Grimsby would make it better. Besides we owe the buggers  , and Artell. I believe that Vale won’t  play like today , and we’ll see a bounce at 3pm Monday . UTV !
