Match thread : Port Vale v Colchester United, 1st Oct

I think giving Tolaj a breather ahead of Notts on Saturday is the right call. Shame no Benicio yet so hopefully he can be back for the weekend too. Would have preferred swapping Paton and Hackford but guess his remit is going to be run around and press a lot for 50 minutes or so then make changes.

Find keeping Sang in quite bizarre, did ok against Swindon but not keen on him as a centre half. Hackford even more bizarre as wasn’t impressed by him on Saturday. Hopefully they both do well.

Clearly BBB either got injured, or DM felt he needed to be dropped after he had a stinker at Accrington. I would imagine on that bench it's a straight choice between Benicio and Richards.

Difficult to argue too much against the lineup.

Nice to see Chizzy starting.

Well well well. The players that Vale signed snubbed by a loanee who probably won't be here in two months.

This is something I hate about the club... Too much attention given to loanees. Colchester should be given the utmost respect.

At least Sang is a fully signed up player!!

I will go for a typical Vale performance on a Tuesday.

2-1 Colchester, and rub salt into the wounds, Landolo to score.

I don't think "snubbed is the right word" I think "rested" is more accurate. We have a large squad DM is just using it.

Loanees don't form part of the squad.

Keeping our permanent stock out of the picture does nothing.

I agree, loans should always be behind our signed players. Paton should be on tonight, he is our player !!!!

Loanees are our signing: we signed them on loan.

And they are certainly part of the squad, hence some are getting first team games.

What Hackford brings to the team (Youth! Raw enthusiasm? ) over others on our bench I'm not sure, but I'm happy to let the man with playing and managerial experience that I don't possess pick the team.

I agree Paton should be starting instead of Hackford, however I don't think we were crying out for our own players to play when we had Arblaster on every week.

Isn't now different from the squad set up this time last season?

Penned them in pretty well so far.
