Match thread : Port Vale v Colchester United, 1st Oct

The tempo needs upping and we need to offer something different. We’ve moved the ball slowly and allowed them to get eleven men behind the ball. We’ve not really created anything of note

It's been a tough watch given their approach and our frustrating inability to create anything.  Just lumping it to Stockley isn't going to work tonight - they're ready for that. Losing Byers is also not good, because we need a bit of guile to open them up, and he has that. I would take Hackford off, since he hasn't offered much, and get Paton or Tolaj on. We then need to move it quicker - our slowness in the build up is allowing them to get their back 5 and midfield 4 across the park to smother us. Teams are going to do this over the season, just come for a point and take 2 minutes taking a goal kick, taking it in turns to go down etc - if we are going to beat them, we need to be a little sharper in our passing and turn them round towards their own goal.  It's all happening in font of Colchester at present, and they are comfortable.

Hopeful of a better second half going towards our own fans - that wasn't a very good first half at all.

Tolaj or Paton to replace Hackford and partner Stockley please.

Listening on RS, triple sub.

Anyone else slightly wary of a pattern emerging this season of the starting side frequently not being quite right?

Sang off for Richard’s and Hackford for Curtis. Good moves there from Moore.

Fair play to Moore for the triple substitution and change of shape.

Guessing wingers and chis through the middle. How we should have started the game

Here we go. Keeper down now. Slow hand clap.

If this season goes as we all hope, then games like this are good training for what we can expect from quite a number of teams.

Colchester’s cynical brand of anti-football and unprincipled fakery is unfit for human consumption, but they won’t give a **** if they manage to squeeze out a point from the game.

The onus is on Vale to break them down by finding that incisive pass, that special shot.

So let’s do that lads.

Punish these t*ss*rs.

Can clearly see from the first half Colchester have come with a defensive gameplan and it is working. Second half we have started bright with the changes but they are back to their time wasting already!

And good wishes to George Byers.

That looked a nasty one, and the lad appeared distraught as he left the field.

Speedy recovery, George.

Dive dive dive. I’d be <ovf censored> embarrassed to send a football side out to play like this. Couldn’t support a side doing this

GET IN THERE DEBS!!!

Top man Jesse!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL
