Need to get control of the ball to be able to move it to the wide players quickly enough.

Which isn't Garrity's game. He's all about arriving in the box, that's his strength, along with his engine.

I know it's early days , but it seems to be just a mess at the moment . Needs to get a settled starting 11 soon and stick with them.

I'm not sure anyone plays 442 in Division 4.

DM usually plays a back 3 not a back 5. I wish he would play a back 4 with a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-1-3 type of formation. Croasdale or Byers to sit in front of the back 4 at all times in the "Luke Joyce" role. Swap the personnel in the squad/on the field as form/injury dictates.

          Byers Croasdale Garrity

  Paton/Tolaj Stockley  BBB/Curtis/Diamond

What is it with Vale fans obsessed with two midfielders doesn’t work and we get overrun in the middle?

This has been a myth for nigh on 20 years now.

Our biggest problem, by an absolute country mile, is not having two out and out strikers in division 4.

Tolaj and Paton score goals for fun.

For me it’s so obvious.
Put those two up top with two wingers in a 4-4-2. They will form a prolific partnership.

The best form of defence is attack and under clueless Moore we are currently concentrating on defending. That’s why we are getting spanked. When one goes in we seem clueless.

I think Man City are proving your point at the moment.

We have bigger worries than Garrity but for me, he does not work in this current formation, he can only play in a 352 or 433.  The best player we have had over 3 years but with Byers and Croasdale, these in my opinion are better if we persist with this present formation which I personally hate.  The other issue is if he is that guy behind the front man or 2, he is not that player to slip balls through like a Chislett or Curtis.

In regards to the game, thought yet again such a slow start, considering they played a tough game in mid-week and we had no game, I expected us come out fast but another borefest for half an hour where nothing happened.  This manager is making some strange decisions, with subs, tactics and why did he not allow Ripley to go up for the corne in the 98th minute, we might as well lose 4 - 2, if I was Ripley, I would have not even looked across at Moore.

Man City are playing a 442 without the ball but definitely not with it. They've got one recognised centre forward on in Haaland, and Bernardo is pressing with him without the ball. It's pretty much what every big team does, before shifting it a 325 with the ball.

I'm not sure what point they're proving because it's bordering on a different sport such is the difference in quality.

Find a place for him further forward by all means. But I stand by my point that Byers/Croasdale would be a better (ideal) combination as a pair, which was all I was stating.

Yes, I posted this about an hour after the final whistle. But you’re being a bit disingenuous. When I asked you where Garrity fits in you said “he doesn’t”, but of course you know that he has to play, because of his goal threat and driving forward. He’s one of our best players. I hope Moore knows this too. But the difficulty then comes in the rest of the formation. I’ll admit I don’t know what I would do. For me Stockley has to play too. But other than than that, I’m stumped. My guess would be that Moore doesn’t know yet either. That’s not to be too critical of him though, it’s early days and it’s up to the players to force their way in, like Benicio did 2nd half.

Well, let's buck the trend

Well so far we have played a woeful side (sorry Salford) and 3 sides who are really well organised (two of which would have been promoted last year under a slightly different wind) - and we have been totally out-foxed.

My heart bleeds to read on here already comments like "Darren Moore doesnt know what he is doing" and we are not even a month into the season 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈

But im sitting here being a keyboard warrior, and im thinking to myself - Darren Moore doesnt know what he is doing.

Since I witnessed one of the all time best Vale displays at Wembley, I cannot genuinely think of any time that I have seen some entertaining and enterprising football - it really does drain you after a bit.

I refuse to start picking apart all the way through the team, but one thing that is really getting to me is the attacking situation - Why on earth are we firing 100 foot high balls upto an attacker who is what, 5 10 at most. If Stockley is fit enough for 45 mins from the bench, get him on at the start and see if we can get a goal or two in front - I would love to see Todger or Paton playing off Stockley, with Benicio ripping it up from one of the wings - its so simple its untrue, but no, not a chance.

I will say however that our equaliser was a thing of beauty - A perfect through ball by Todger and a classy composed finish from Croesdale - boy, I really like him 👏👏👏👏

Thats all Im saying - im off to practice my golf driver - you know , just to finish the day off on a lower point 🙈🙈🙈😁😁😁

Dunner worry I've left you a pint of Stella behind the bar in castle spoons👌 🍺, mate 😎

But if we play 3 in midfield then we definitely only start one up front. Would be nice to see two up there now and again. Ultimately there are lots of options, and Moore needs to start mixing things up and trying different things instead of sticking with something that just isn't working. We looked much better today the moment we had a bit of pace in the side.

What's our identity? What are we trying to do ? Playing at home is like pulling teeth, and don't start me on the transfer policy, got more strikers than the RMT and a defence with more holes in it than Jamie Olivers colander, its slowly becoming embarrassing.

They play with one proper forward and still do OK. It is what you do  with the other 10 players that counts. Our shape and plan (if there is one) is awful.

Heneghan and Hall. Christ, that's so slow it should be considered a criminal activity to pair them together.

Heneghan looks like a slightly worse version of Smith so far. Hope there's much better to come from him.

Could not agree more.
Just get a basic 4-4 <ovf censored> 2 and tell the players to play football.

I’ve been bored to <ovf censored> with these so called top “coaches” like Crosby and Moore.

Football is a very simple game, complicated by coaches.

I can’t understand why nobody else can see it, “just get a basic 4-4-2 and tell the players to play football”.  It’s that easy.  By the way mind telling us all why you were overlooked for the England managers job?
