In a two man midfield, he doesn't. Croasdale is better defensively and Byers a better footballer.

Nice talking to you fella 🤣

So are you saying Garrity is a better player than Byers, who has played at a higher level?

Take away his goal threat when he's higher up the pitch and Garrity is extremely basic. Certainly no ball player.

We don’t have a settled team, formation or tactics and I’m not sure when we will. This was my worry with signing so many players.

Who is our back 4 / back 5?

Who is our midfield 2 / 3?

Who is our main striker / front 3?

No one knows, including Moore.

There are so many variations that we can play which is hindering us. There are too many players who can play as either a forward, wide man or attacking midfielder.

Prime example is that we have played Tolaj as a right forward for two games for whatever reason.

Is that after Conor went close and they had one cleared off the line...??  Asking for a friend

Did you think we looked dangerous?

Positives for me :-
Benicio - Excellent when he appeared fantastic pace.

Croasdale - A lot of his work goes unnoticed but shone today with his goal bringing him to the forefront. Think we're going to love this guy.

Negatives - What is our game? How long Moore has been here I'm none the wiser.

Sky - 12.30 kick offs are <ovf censored>.

I'd be amazed if anyone on here can name 8 of the starting 11 next week.

That in itself is a problem.

Can certainly call the formation.

I think a lot of lower level teams, including Vale, need to stop trying to set up like Pep Guardiola and revert to more traditional tactics and formations. The team has no identity, no plan, no threat and currently no hope. The football is boring to watch and seems to rely on random opportunities arising, rather than creating them. Let’s play to strengths and make us entertaining even if that means going back to a more direct or traditional approach.

Could not agree more.
Just get a basic 4-4 <ovf censored> 2 and tell the players to play football.

I’ve been bored to <ovf censored> with these so called top “coaches” like Crosby and Moore.

Football is a very simple game, complicated by coaches.

The more you post the worse you make it.

But he's right. Garrity needs to play in a 3 man midfield behind the front man. Like he did for the lat 15 or so minutes today. Much more effective in that time.

He’s not a ball player, no. But, as you say (and I’m not sure how you can take it away) he’s a goal threat. Has to play, but further up, not in the two. But has to play. I actually think this is our biggest issue. We have to play all 3, and we have to find that formation. For me Stockley has to play too. And Smithy probably. But what that formation looks like, God knows!

In effect like the end of today.

Knowing that little tool, he will see it as me attacking Garrity. But in a two man midfield, with everyone fit, he would surely be the one you drop. Either play him as an attacking midfielder or second striker, or not at all.

Find a place for him further forward by all means. But I stand by my point that Byers/Croasdale would be a better (ideal) combination as a pair, which was all I was stating.

Need to get control of the ball to be able to move it to the wide players quickly enough.

What is it with Vale fans obsessed with two midfielders doesn’t work and we get overrun in the middle?

This has been a myth for nigh on 20 years now.

Our biggest problem, by an absolute country mile, is not having two out and out strikers in division 4.

Tolaj and Paton score goals for fun.

For me it’s so obvious.
Put those two up top with two wingers in a 4-4-2. They will form a prolific partnership.

The best form of defence is attack and under clueless Moore we are currently concentrating on defending. That’s why we are getting spanked. When one goes in we seem clueless.
