Match thread: Port Vale v Doncaster Rovers, 31st Aug

JoeB2 mentioned this earlier: our defence played a 'too high line' for how slow they are. Two of their goals came from balls played in behind our defenders. DM's fault - tactics. However, it really is basic.

I used to play up top as a young lad and was quite nippy. I used to love it when slow defenders played a high line. Was like lambs to the slaughter! Just a simple ball through or over the top of their defenders. But it's annoyingly basic. Just drop off defensively 5/10 yards if your defence is slow like ours.

This hatred of Moore is getting rediculous

Don't think a single person hates him. But you can certainly ask serious questions about a manager that has a 15% winning ratio over the last couple of years.

4 points from 12 is a lot to worry about.

Slight concern NOT 'a lot to worry about'.

Let's be honest. Until the penalty we didn't look like creating anything second half. If anyone was going to score again it looked like them.

I'm not sure about this 3-2 massively flattering us theme. 1 each was fair at half time. I honestly expected us to go on & win the game.

We obviously had a terrible start to the 2nd half & then they've hit us on the break with a superb through ball & finish to go 3-1. They basically had 4 clear cut chances & 3 of them ended up in the net.

We had chances of our own. Hall has to score his header to make it 2-2. It was a sitter. Stockley off the line & then peppered away for the final 10 mins searching for an equaliser. Their defender heads Benicios cross straight at his own keeper.

I'm not saying we deserved to win, but ppl saying it could've been 5 or 6 are off their heads. On another day we take a point despite not playing well.

PS. Watch the highlights back on Sky. Their first goal is just a really good goal. The ball from Sharp is brilliant, as is the finish. The 2nd goal is very sloppy & the 3rd we're pushing for an equaliser & their lad has hit an inch perfect pass in behind us, another good finish as well.

Finally a balanced view.

I disagree.

They just looked like a team who been playing together for a while (which they have) & they had Sharp & Molyneux up the top end of the pitch. At no point did I think we were being totally outplayed by them. Both teams had little spells, ours coming at the end of both halves. They were clinical, we were not. Stats back this up.

Our spell was when the game was done. In that spell they missed a sitter and should have had a penalty.

Is that after Conor went close and they had one cleared off the line...??  Asking for a friend

What about him taking Wednesday up...??

What about him taking Wednesday down?

Clear favourites to win the division with a budget far bigger than anyone else.

Irrelevant anyway, he went to Huddersfield afterwards and did an awful job there, sacked, was never going to get another job in the Championship so needed to step down at least one division, no other club after him that I’m aware of and we give him a 5.5 year contract- stupid IMO, let’s just hope there is a release clause and he has already triggered it.

After the signings we made this summer there isn't a single member here that would have thought we would have only assembled 4 points after 4 games. It's shocking.

Why is it? We all knew it was going to be an almost completely new team. They have to be given more time than four games.

Even Chislett said in his pre-match interview that it will take time for the players to click. So, therefore, time should be given. But not too much of it. This run of poor form stretching back to last January has to be halted.

My point is that in my view Moore had ample time to prevent relegation last season and failed miserably.

She's always a bit slow on the sackings. She clearly likes and rates Moore, and seems astonished we attracted him in the first place. She effectively handed him the keys to the club this summer.

I like going the pub quite a lot but if the beer🍺 in spoons sucks I'd just stop going , my point is carol will need to act sooner rather than later if the performance and results don't improve soon

I said that because the only thing you've said, like a lot of people on here, is negative.

The reaction on here is simply insane

No. He wasn't. That's exactly how I saw it. But YOU will always say the worst thing you can.

Pathetic

We're not the only team in the league with a load of new signings. Yes, even under Moore we will improve as the season goes on. But so will plenty of other teams. We've won one league game this season as of yet, against what was a really toothless Salford team. We're conceding goals all over the place against any decent sides, and take away the set-pieces, can barely score a goal.

Its dreadful and I'm bewildered that so many people seem to be absolutely okay with it.
