An evening with DM & Matt Hancock - Thurs 2nd May

sadly I 100% agree but the biggest problem is the long contracts that a lot of players (loft, jones and others have) and the debt we have and his ridiculous five and a half years contract and we have no wriggle room to buy players and I fear the future

Nah.

MH and DM confirmed we'll have a "very competitive budget" for next season.

I took this as money to buy players, money for good wages and money to pay off some of the dossers.

Again, talk is cheap, but Matt acknowledged the separation between fans and the club. That was good to hear.

Nice to see Carol will be taking a backstep but still very much committed.
Great to hear that Darren will be the football boss of everything.
Let’s not forget, we have a former premier league player and manager, who this time last season had amassed almost 100 points in league 1.

He had no pre season at Huddersfield and walked into an absolute shower here.

We go into next season with a manager who has a proven record and can now get his own players in. We also have a hierarchy who acknowledge they’ve become too nice and mistakes were made.

There were no negatives at all from Matt or Darren tonight. It wasn’t cliche crap. It was all about the hard work starts here and we know what we are doing. Especially Darren.

To those 17 in contract…….
Look at Ben, Chizzy and Ripley.

If we can keep those three and get rid of a minimum 8 of those deadwood, I’d be over the moon.

Great post, I had some real doubts about next season under DM & the route the club was taking but after last night I am a lot more positive and warmed to DM. Positive thoughts makes the relegation that little bit easier to swallow now.

I didn't think Moore was the man for us based on what I've seen so far. I just felt he didn't "fit" the fans.

But I do feel much more encouraged after watching last night.

I've seen a different side to him.

Stern. Steely. Focused. Determined. Felt he had a real air of "I'm the boss, don't mess with me".

Clearly the nicey nice approach was to try and get a tune out of these dossers. Feel like that will change now and I'm all for it.

His comments about our being ‘soft’ with no ‘edge’  (ie too nice) as a club/team were particularly telling and on the mark. He’d obviously spoken to players collectively and individually since Saturday laying down exactly what his expectations of them will be when they return  from their holidays. With some of his other comments it felt like he’d given the squad an ultimatum of it’s either my way (stern, steely etc) or the highway - contract or not.

I thought the whole evening was beneficial with respectful behaviour from everyone. No name calling or back biting.

The proof of the pudding will be come August.

I really hope ,and realise due to the Aug transfer window that it's difficult,  that we have most of our team in place come opening day. Moore said this was his hope too.

We all know the consequences of a 23.50 pm panic signing don't we !

People are laughing, but I've got a really strange feeling about this one. He's already made his money, last move of his career in a league where he would run the show, maybe get some coaching badges out of it and hopefully a promotion. It's no secret he absolutely loved playing for Moore at Wednesday. I just don't think it's as daft a move as people are thinking.

He loved playing for Wednesday at 15k per week in a league 1 winning team. I don’t think Moore was the major appeal. Certainly £3k at Vale in the 4th division with Moore isn’t that appealing.

I said it a month ago he is 35 in December and in into his second year of collecting his Euro coaching badges. I have a sneaky feeling that we might have a new player-coach next season and now I know we won't be spending money on a DOF I think Bannan is a real possibility.

I can't see Vale offering him 30k a week!

He clearly said that it was too soon for this year. Think it's a daft idea myself and we need to focus our energies on the club rather than letting that gurning fool and his prosecco-guzzling imbecilic fans trash the pitch again.

Careful. Can’t do with the man myself, but a lot of PV supporting females attended that we cannot/do not want to offend.

Recruiting players from contacts and who the staff know?

Absolutely were going to see players Darren and his team have worked with previously ,so yeah Barry Bannon falls into that category along with some other very interesting players.

Data driven analysis to recruit players looks a thing of the past. Only winners and players with a bit of an edge are wanted at this club, honestly I don't think Darren Moore will accept anything less.

Great to have one man in complete charge of the 1st team and recruitment. We know who to praise.......or blame😀

Neither can I but players over 35 have a choice. Live off what they have earned or take a step back to start the next 20 years. He is active with his coaching qualifications and knows he won't be on silly money for much longer. I think it's a perfect fit....Unless of course Sheff Wed have plans for him.
