Exactly this. I think last night this was happening to a positive extent and it was a success. Having Alfie and Ben abit deeper in Midfield protected him much more than usual as they ratted about.
He still got clattered tho, as he always does. When he got the knock to his calf we were all like ffs not again thankfully he was OK tho.
He needs protecting on the pitch as much as possible and playing to his strengths as much as possible

Good move by the club but it does show what a bad state we are in that we have not been able to find a striker any way near as good as Wilson in the last 3 seasons and are having to keep on the books a player we will most likely only get a dozen games a season fully fit.

We re hardly in a state though are we. Just a work in progress like most clubs...jj Hooper, Martin Paterson et al would be worthy of the phrase in a state.

Improve again over the next two transfer windows coupled with continued improvements in the quality of loan signings and the improvement in standard  of our own yougsters and we ll be well on our way to becoming established in this league.

Then we just need supporters to get on board

If we're in " a bad state" there are 10 teams currently in a worse state. 

I think you'll find players as good as Wilson get snapped up and paid 3 times what we can afford by bigger clubs than us.

Vale have obviously had strikers who've scored more goals than Wilson and that's the bottom line for a striker. However,  have we had a more skillful striker, one with such a sublime touch, creativity, vision and quality strike on him. 

Off the top of my head I can only think of Tony Naylor who comes close.

Steve McPhee is often overlooked in the annals of history of past Vale players.  He was bloody sensational and, for a midget, one of the best headers of the ball I've ever seen!  Take note Loft!
