Sensible choice as captain, and a named vice-captain who will be in the first XI too (wasn't Pett VC last year?). Think Ripley, Smith, Ojo and Harrison are the core of the team and the only guaranteed starters irrespective of formation (3 or 4 at back, 2 or 3 in MF, 1 or 2 CF).

Could possibly have kept TC as club captain, give him some extra motivation and a role to play while recovering? He is really going to have to go some tho to even get back in the 18 when fit (other injuries notwithstanding).

Hate saying this and I'm brutal I guess.....his injury may well of finished his Vale career unless he comes back and plays out of his skin to earn a new deal . That's assuming he gets in the squad.

Feels like another indication TC’s Vale career is coming to and end, injured or not.

I think Ojo is an inspired vc. I thought he was becoming disconnected from the club or possibly just the manager last season. Accrington comes to mind. So this shows strong reconnection and centrality. 

OK with Smith as captain. It does signal he's going to play. My challenge is that he improves at the L1 level. He can claim that if our goals against comes down significantly. 

Conlon needs to recover which is one reason he can't be captain. He also needs to improve. But coming into his prime years, I think he's earned the chance to show he can with his service to date.

I wonder if the Notts County rumours were true prior to his injury?

Well, we definitely don't want him to go down with his ship the SS Port Vale.

Yes I agree, needs to fully concentrate on his own wellbeing think he would have had some input into this outcome. Good luck to your future Tom, hopefully see you back in a Vale shirt soon
